James Aon 28/04/2017 10:38We came in here because of the extreme heat.
I asked for a Sprite which came out warm, the waiter didn't speak good enough English to send it back.
We ordered two prawn curries and requested the heads and tails be cut off, but they came out with them.
Annoyed to say the very least.
Beautiful - great value!
SharonKJ2017on 23/04/2017 18:55We found the Royal Beach Hotel after we had already booked a different (and disappointing) hotel in Hikkaduwa. We quickly cancelled our prior reservations and booked the Royal Beach Hotel. It is beautiful and clean. The staff were very professional and had a daily cleaning routine that including putting tablecloths and flowers on all the beachfront tables. We selected a room on the highest floor and had an amazing view of the sea and the tree tops over the town. Each room has a small outdoor sitting area - perfect for reading a good book or playing guitar. The rooms were in excellent shape (new paint, well-kept wood) and the bathroom was modern and clean. We stayed for five nights and ate every day at the restaurant which had a good selection of well-prepared, fresh food at reasonable prices. We enjoyed many lazy hours at the beachfront restaurant sipping fresh lemon-lime juice or tea while reading and relaxing (or cruising the internet on the free wifi). The beach was clean and the staff worked every day keeping it that way (sweeping the sand, picking up garbage). Staff were around and helpful all day. I would recommend staying here to anyone going to Hikkaduwa - don't get trapped in any of the other shabby places along the beach - the Royal Beach Hotel will give you great memories of Sri Lanka.
A great week in Hikkaduwa
Charlotte3989on 27/03/2017 13:28We stayed at Royal Beach in early Feb 2017. We had a fantastic week. Kumar the hotel owner went above and beyond for us. We had transport arranged to and from the airport, he arranged a driver at 4am to take us to see the Whales in Mirissa, he spent a day driving us around all the popular sightseeing hotspots and arranged for us to visit an elephant orphanage.
Breakfast was good and you can order food throughout out the day. For dinner we ordered a whole freshly caught fish between the six of us which was delicious! Joe the waiter was amazing throughout our stay!
I would highly recommend Royal Beach. We most definitely will be going back!
Best value for money!
Ayahuion 22/03/2017 14:17Hotel Royal Beach saved my life after a couple of unpleasant experiences with the hotels in Hikkaduwa. The rooms they first offer are rather expensive (between 60$ and 90$), but you can also choose a non-AC room which does not include breakfast for 3,000 lkr (less than 20$). This seems to be the minimum price for the area, regardless of the health and aesthetic standards of the hotel. So to be able to find something for this price was a real joy! The rooms are immaculately clean and well insulated so you will not suffer the absence of AC. There are bright common areas with sofas for reading indoors and comfortable beach loungers for sunbathing in the beach. To top this, the hotel is run by the loveliest and most helpful staff you could imagine! The only breakfast option is a western set (egg, toast and fruit), but the restaurant manager found out that I preferred Sri Lankan food he arranged a local breakfast for the following day. Simply fantastic!
Looks good from the outside- don't be fooled !
ireneaq2017on 08/03/2017 14:07Beautiful garden on arrival but we were soon faced the reality of this 2 * hotel. Room had a strong moldy smell, ( another reviewer here mentioned having a moldy mattress), I thought it was from the mattress). Sheets are yellowed and old-stained, no blankets or hand towels to be had, they don't keep them. No toiletries, no tea making facility, ( a jug of water provided for a 3 night stay) no phone, fridge worked but needed dumping. Room was clean but was not cleaned daily. Not all the rooms have a safe. Our first room looked out on staff washing, I wouldn't have paid $20 to stay in it. It smelled ok. No place to hang clothes. Sitting outside the rooms is pleasant especially on the ground floor as the garden is so nice. Service very poor. No reception per se ( they have an office during the day with 2 girls who don't really speak English). Bartender is evening receptionist. They add 10% service charge even if you have to serve yourself in the end. The owner's elderly mother seems to be running the place, she has no idea......a professional person needs to be brought in to manage it - it has great potential, Do not stay there- there are many other hotels on the beach with better facilities.
