Foodie_AIIMSon 22/08/2017 14:58Stayed for 02 nights on reading reviews... Away from the city hustle & bustle..atop a hill in Cleve Colony..an Oasis of calm.. Nature.. Greenery..and super quiet.. Best for people/ couples looking for privacy and quiet moments without any distractions. But I felt it was a bit overpriced and overrated for the tariff... No Refrigerator in the Room and no discounts on F & B for house guests..and the food although well prepared and presented was on the pricier side..and the breakfast spread was also limited.. I might not stay again...
Wonderful place with an old-world charm
Laetitia Won 08/08/2017 19:18When you walk into the halls of the Tripura Castle, it is like stepping through a time portal - back into the days of the Raj. With high ceilings and wooden flooring, it is cosy and warm: Important because Shillong can be very cold especially in the winter. However, don't let the old-world setting fool you, the bathrooms come with modern amenities, the room service is prompt and friendly, and the breakfast spread is delicious. The location is good as well - within the city but still cocooned in green forests on a hill top with excellent views.
Watch out for some live music at the cafe. And don't miss the trinkets in the club, especially a signed photograph of Adolf Hitler autographed to the erstwhile Maharaja of Tripura - grandfather of the present king. Also find signed rock and football memorabilia. We were surprised one evening by the King of Tripura himself, who personally cares for his guests when he is there, and we had a lovely chat adding a personal touch to our stay.
All in all, it's a great stay - spacious rooms, modern amenities, friendly local staff, delicious food, and a charming maharaja as a bonus!
Quaint little place within Shillong yet away from the city crowd

Positives:
Spacious rooms. Bathroom with modern amenities. Balcony attached to each rooms.Wooden flooring.
Colonial feeling.
Breakfast spread was pretty decent.
View from the restaurant at the new building called Cafe Heritage.
Friendly staff.
Buggy service from the old to the new building.
There is a back entrance which can be used to avoid stairs at the main entrance of the main building.
Phones were answered in 3 rings flat each time.
Friendly staff, no expectation of tips.
Food was decent to taste and price.
Room service was prompt.
Tea received from room service used to be hot.
Free wifi with decent speed.
Negatives:
If the rooms are filled up at the main portico, you are taken to a nearby new building.
Outside looks a bit run down. Needs fresh painting.
The main entrance is a series of steps. Not good for the elderly.
Beware of street dogs. One of them bit a fellow guest.
If you stay in the new wing, you need to go to the old wing for breakfast.
Drive to the place is on a small hillock, not very far from the main highway.
Traffic jams in Shillong. Please come early to avoid traffic. took 2 1/2 hours to drive 10 kilometers.
Overall, you can enjoy a good couple of peaceful days away from the office schedule.
Small property but Recommended
travell0ver222on 25/07/2017 12:04ROYAL HERITAGE TRIPURA CASTLE is a Heritage property with 2 separate blocks 100 metres apart in between the hills away from city hustle bustle. (Make it clear HERITAGE CLUB is entirely a different property adjacent to this one and is a little smaller but has small gardens)
We stayed in Royal one and this has no gardens but has small very nice restaurant and pool table and small bar in main block. The annexure block has 4-5 rooms only but they are much bigger and with very good balcony and awesome valley views, it also has a continental/chinese restaurant. Caddy car always available at doorstep.
The staff is extremely polite and hospitable. Rooms very good. Bathrooms ok ok.
Food is yummy. Breakfast lavish. Try both restaurants . Cafe in Annex building has lip smacking dishes and best cappuccino.
Must stay for a Royal feeling !

Bernadette Lon 14/07/2017 15:14Excellent food and drinks. The Shandon noodles and the Paharai chicken tikka are definitely worth a try. To add to the taste, the ambience of the new wing is splendid. The old wing is equally good with a lounge bar and a pool table.
