What People are saying

OK 2 Star Hotel

Canadianrobmadridon 26/06/2016 09:00

Stayed here for a family visit and as others have noted it's an average 2-3 star hotel. It has been painted and renovated everywhere except for the bathrooms and the beds, both are very old. My room didn't have a mini bar

Positives:
Internet is (now) free and of reasonable speeds.
Flat Screen TV
Mini bar (most rooms)
Breakfast: this was a surprise, they offer fresh cooked eggs and do a great Latte!!!!

Negatives: no A/C usually doesn't matter but it was hot and humid and I found the hotel to have no air flow, hallways are very stuffy.

Beds: old
Bathroom old
Room noisy as it's on a busy street

Regarding the size of the room it's a standard European roo. But the sitting chairs take up a lot of space.

As others have mentioned I don't recommend it

Better go somewhere else.

Room rates are OK and there was a breakfast served at 6:00. So far so good. People are allowed to smoke in the lobby and basically the whole hotel stinks alike. If you book a smoke free room this is a star less. The beds are old and needs some update. The hotel is near to two main streets with ditto car noises.
I don't understand the 'Royal' part of the hotel name.

this is not a four star hotel!

- small rooms, problem even walk alongside the bed
- very soft mattresses
- old fashioned bathroom
- 1,50 EURO for 1 hour wifi connectivity! unbelievable
- breakfast OK
- staff OK
- only one TV channel in english language

A handy hotel

This hotel is located near to a business and out-of-town retail area of Pforzheim. On the good side, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and helpful and car parking is available. On the negative side there appears to be no air-conditioning in the rooms which can be a problem in very hot weather. Traffic noise is average for a city hotel.

What you expect from a small hotel

I stayed at the Royal Pforzheim for 3 nights for business meetings. This is my first visit to Pforzheim, and this hotel was recommended to me because it was the closest one to where the meetings were being held.

This is an older hotel, so the building and interior do look dated and a little worn. The lobby often smelled like smoke eventhough it's supposed to be smoke-free. The check-in was a little more involved by requiring completing a form before being handed the keys (I can’t remember the last time I got physical metal keys for my room.) The front desk person took me up personally to show me to my room.

My room was a decent size. Bed was OK. LCD TV had several channels, including one English channel (CNN). Work desk was a good size. There is a mini-bar stocked with a few snacks and drinks. Bathroom is decent size with above average sized bathtub. There is no AC, so I had to open my window to keep the room cooler which also meant I had to let in the road noise.

Wi-Fi service is extra, but at a relatively cheap rate (8 euros for 8 hours). However, you can only use one device at a time. The access speed wasn’t great (around 1 Mbps). Service was unstable so the WiFi dropped quite often on my mobile. I’m not sure how they measure usage time, but I deliberately turned off my WiFi after use, but the 8 hours I bought ran out a lot faster than expected, so I had to buy additional hours.

Breakfast is a standard German breakfast of eggs, cold meats, cheese, breads, juice and coffees. Very acceptable.

I didn’t try the restaurant behind the building, but was told by locals that that it’s quite good. The Palm Beach next door is OK if you want American type food and to watch sports.

Location was OK for my business meetings, but not ideal if for travelers looking for something central.

Service was generally pretty good. All staff were very friendly, and housekeeping is very attentive. Once, they even offered free drinks to us while we were waiting in the lobby for our ride.

Overall, the hotel is OK. It provided what's generally needed (but a faster more stable WiFi service would be better). For future meetings, I would consider coming back for a one night stay, but would consider more central locations for longer stays.
