Bait and switch -- seems to be common
OregonTraveller71on 08/08/2017 20:37I booked for two adults and two children, with two beds. When I was checking in they said we only booked for two adults and that we would get a king bed, despite my printed confirmation showing otherwise. Our teenage daughters could sleep on the floor. They "might" have a rollaway available. They said they had no double-double rooms available, unless we wanted to upgrade to an ocean view room (instead of partial ocean view we'd booked). We had little choice but to pay it or go elsewhere.
The view from the upgraded room was fantastic. God made it, not the hotel staff.
The room was pretty and nicely appointed, although small. Furniture, linens and finishes were very nice. They have a keurig coffee maker in the room, which worked fine for the first four cups our first morning, then we could not get it to work again. They also did not replenish our coffee pods, but didn't matter the second day because the machine was malfunctioning. We just got our coffee with breakfast and went on with our day.
The coconut lime shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the shower was very nice.
The prices in the restaurant are very high and the food not deserving of the price. Better food for less if you leave the property.
There isn't anyone around the hotel doing progressive cleanup. Drink cups blowing around the pool, blowing into the pool. I fished a drink cup out of the pool, left a little water in it to keep it from blowing away, and set it up on the pool deck, in easy view of the beach shack, where at least two employees work all day upselling beach equipment (umbrellas, chairs, boogie boards, etc.), and they never did pick up the cup and throw it away (at least from before noon to after sunset). I guess they figure it's not their job. I noticed a coffee cup that was sitting on the edge of the bocce ball court all day long, and didn't get picked up until sometime after dark (I assume the pool guys are cleaning the pool early in the morning, and pick up trash from the day before). Room service trays and plates were left in the hallway all day long, on each of the three days we were there.
A great stay!
Jason Ton 06/08/2017 22:05I guess I have a hard time writing this review because:
a) our stay ended up being great, but
b) our original room we received (and response to issue) wasn't great
We had booked apparently the Aloha Saver (or something like that) package via Delta Vacation (we weren't aware it was going to give us a horrible room). When we checked in we were given a room in Cabin Q which is almost a mile from the ocean, a shared patio with a half wall, totally outdated, tears the carpet etc and a shared wall with a room that had a screaming child in it.
When we complained we were basically told if you want a better room you have to pay an upgrade fee. Since we were going to be at the hotel we definitely couldn't live with that room. So we upgraded...so the rest of my review is based off of this, BUT be warned when booking that there are some affordable rates, but you're going to get what you paid for (or didn't know you paid for).
In the long run...
We received a ocean view room and were very impressed with the room.
View - we had a floor to ceiling view of the ocean from the sixth floor. The patio doors also opened up double doored onto the patio. Spectacular view that you see the entire coast, both islands, and unforgettable sunsets.
Cleanliness - the room was spotless. Great cleaning and prompt - always clean by the time we made it back in the afternoon. The only complaint I would have is the shower always seemed to be foggy.
Pools & ocean - the beach was great. There were also some great snorkelling spots to next to the resort. The pool (the two) were also great - always room at the chairs by the pool to lounge at, and ample towel service.
Location - we loved it. We were close to the places we wanted to visit with great restaurants within a 20 minute walk (or 5 minute drive). The town go Lahaina was a short drive away - about 10 minutes) or you could take the shuttle.
Parking - I didn't love the parking fee (I couldn't find anything about the fees online which was kind of annoying) but it was tolerable. The only time it really sucked was when the luau was on - you ended up parking a fair bit away from the hotel lobby. Since we were in the main hotel tower it wasn't' too far of a walk but say if we had stayed in our original cabin it would have been a much longer walk.
Communication - my only big complaint is that I had reached out to the resort several times leading up to my trip (twice via the contact for online and several times via twitter) and never once received a response. Kind of irritating.
Food - we only took advantage of the restaurant once, so I don't have many comments. We did love the coffee in the room - and they would refill it quickly for us with Keurig cups if needed.
I would definitely stay at this resort again - we loved the location, the room, and and the atmosphere.
Great stay
BernieandMandy Con 05/08/2017 06:08Upgraded for a small fee to an ocean and mountain view on arrival . Surroundings are beautiful and close to everything - shuttle bus can take to to whalers bay and the factory outlets on front street . Food is not bad and reasonable priced - drinks at the pool bar aren't bad either . Tipping etc took us a bit to get used to being Aussies so we felt bad when we knew the 'tradition' and we had left a few people out early days ! We ran an account and tipped at the end . Lovely place and we have very nice memories now of Maui and our trip here .
Old and Tired
Romeo909on 04/08/2017 20:48This resort needs updating. Rooms are small and cramped. Bathroom was dirty with broken items. Carpet was dirty. Hotel has only one restaruant and one very boring bar. It needed some beer on draught. Hotel has live guitar player/singers. This was highlight of stay. Staff was friendly. Hotel is remote and requires lots of driving to tourist attractions. The highway drive back to tours is long and boring. We rented hotel because it was close to Lahaina but that also proved to be a boring little street. (See my review) This was my third trip to Maui and likely my last. I saw very little reason to return -short of an offer of free travel.
Quiet but close to the action
MasonMauion 03/08/2017 21:03This hotel is literally right on the beach and is located away from the main block of hotels so it's relatively quiet. We've stayed here before and would definitely stay here again. The rooms have great views of the ocean and the balconies are perfect for sitting back and relaxing after a hard day swimming in the warm sea. Try the waffles and strawberries for breakfast with coconut syrup - wow they are amazing. The Whalers Village shopping area is a few minutes away too.
