What People are saying

Clean and comfy but quite small

Valerie_oOo_on 05/11/2015 15:49

We stayed with four people in an apartment that would be suitable for up to 5 people. I wonder where the 5th person would have to sleep as to me it seemed like a place for two as two of us slept on a couch. Yet I found that this place has the perfect location, clean and offers all you'd need.

Great, easy stay

The lodging was located a bit up a hill away from the bottom of the telecabines but there are regular shuttles (free); note however they stop at 7.30pm so a dinner in the village centre means a 10 min steep trek up which can be difficult when it's cold, windy and/ or slippery. The reception was welcoming and very helpful - the self-catering apartment had all for us to set up quickly (e.g. dishwasher tabs, washclothes, detergent). The bath tub was a surprising touch - in fact, the bathroom was quite large in comparison to the rest of the place. The beds are not the best but does the trick. Overall, a good value for money for a great ski resort that's very family friendly.

good and relatively cheap residence for a skiing trip

We spend a week in february in a 2-room apartment (1 bedroom) to enjoy skiing in the area of Galibier Thabor. Les Chalets Valoria is located just above the village of Valloire. Because of its location you benefit of great views over the village and the mountains. The road leading to the residence is pretty steep. We actually needed snow chains to get to the apartment since it had snowed so much and was very slippery. This was an exception, I suppose, since the rest of the week the road stayed cleared, even when it kept snowing. There is a ski bus which continuously drives up and down the road from the village to the residence. It's only a 10 minute walk down and 15 minute walk up from the centre. It is very easy to ski from and to the residence, since the ski slope passes by. It is not a ski in-ski out residence though, since you had to walk a bit, either up or down, to reach the slope. Ofcourse, you can take the ski bus as well to get to and from the telecabine. The telecabine and city centre start right at the bottom of the road leading to the residence. There is a skishop and a sherpa supermarket at the bottom of the road.
The 2-room apartment was of a good size and well equipped, by french standards. The bedroom itself was small. The double bed was pretty small as well, so wouldn't recommend to share with friends. Plus for the bedroom was the large build in cupboard space. Other plusses for the apartment are the bath in the bathroom (although small as well), separate toilet, large cupboard in the hallway. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher and combined microwave/grill. It had everything we needed, lots of pans, cutlery etcetera. The living room had two slepping couches, which might make reasonable bedding, but is not very comfortable to sit on. The residence has a very decent build quality in general. Apartments aren't noisy at all.
The apartment had a large balcony which was facing north/west. Ours had sun for the last couple of ours of the day, until it disappeared behind the mountains. When sunny, a nice place to finish a long day of skiing in the sun at your own balcony!
We really appreciated the nice and helpful staff and all the services offered by the residence. Especially the bread-service and 'traiteur' (catering) come in handy. The catering offers a meal-plan for the entire week or you can order separate meals in advance. We thought the meal we ordered was delicious. It's delivered at your apartment and only might need some re-heating in the microwave. Meals are definitely very fresh and 'home-made'. Would highly recommend the catering!
Minor problem is that the residence doesn't have sufficient public parking space. Although the indoor parking costs extra money (55€) this might be well worth to avoid the parking-drama.
All in all, I would recommend the residence, mainly for younger couples or families with older kids. If you consider the price you can pay, if you book smart with certain travel agencies, it's well worth the money. Especially when compared to other french residences and ski-resorts!

Fine for a short stay

Took a one bedroomed apartment for 2 nights, for family of 5. Very reasonably priced but a bit cramped for 5.Noisy outside early in the morning and some raucous behaviour outside at night. Otherwise comfortable enough and all the facilities you need. Have to drive or get skibus down to lifts/gondola. Washing up pack useful. Beds not very comfortable.
