Spacious room with fantastic meals

I was very impressed with the employee at the reception when we first arrived, he was able to converse well in both English and Mandarin. We stayed in a private room with onsen, with our dinner delivered personally and arranged nicely by a lady. Food was awesome but I would have appreciated if the drinks were complimentary or informed beforehand that it was not included in the main course, as I was taken by surprise by the additional bill upon checking out. Tatamis were prepared right away by the hotel staff after dinner and they were very comfortable. It could be better if the onsen tub was bigger though.

excellence room and view

stay for a night with my family of five. hotel is quite far from bus stop, but it worth a walk with nature along the way and view of our room. family room with outdoor bathtub facing toward mountain, bathtub was very great but can't really see any view while submerging in. there are onsen on 2nd floor with outdoor bath but can't really see any views too. overall is great except food experience, the food quality was fine but service is quite under Japanese standard. waitress feel rushing, she drop one of our plate and have to walk back to kitchen to change it, and doesn't treat it as nice as the price we pay. breakfast was good, Japanese style with buffet. if I have a chance to comeback, will reconsider if there other better deal.

We stayed for two nights in the Ryotei Hanayura in the centre of Noboribetsu Onsen (not Noboribetsu, which is on the coast). Car transport helped a lot with access. A wonderful experience from every standpoint. While it was an expensive tariff, the food was exceptional; interesting, fresh and beautifully presented for dinner in our room and breakfast in the dining room. We had a large Japanese-style tatami room with a private hot spring bath - utter luxury. We were very well looked after and the hotel wasn't too crowded. The quietness and the running stream below the window were very much appreciated.

The best service i had.. the hotel was nice enough to get a mandarin speaking staff to introduce us to our rooms.. my wife loved the in-door hot spring tub.. the dinner was exquisite and the waitress is very amicable despite the language barrier.. after our dinner, the mattress was already set up nicely in our room.. the waitress from then previous day even greeted us with a bow when she saw us at a table for breakfast the following morning.. she also saw us and chased after us to bid us goodbye when we left the ryokan.. definitely an unforgettable experience.. comes with a hefty price tag though.. :)

SOMEWHAT GOOD ONSEN HOTEL IN NOBORIBETSU

Hanayura is known to be one of premium onsen hotels in this region. We stayed there one night with regular kaiseki plan and a private bath. Overall, the hotel was just above average but not fantastic. The room and hotel features were good but food and services by nakai-san were below expectations. Had major communication problem. Food was average. I think service overall needs to be improved for foreigner guests. It's been always highly reviewed hotel but I do see now why the ranking has been falling from 3-4th to 8th. If I revisit this region, I would either pay extra to stay at Takinoya for the highest quality or much less at average onsen hotel near-by for costing, but not here. Bad positioning.
