Great location
dragonmumon 05/11/2016 18:52Located near the centre of Calvi overlooking the citadel.
Our room was clean and comfortable. A good 3 star hotel.
main drawback was we had to vacate the room at 9am which was really not convenient and unheard of in my experience.
Perfect setting
Brian Son 28/09/2016 14:04This Hotel is situated in such a wonderful place and the hotel looks majestically down to the sea as well as over to the Citadel. We had a balcony overlooking the pool area, the sea and the Citadel - perfect.
The staff were quietly efficient, the food was good as long as you don't want scrambled egg!! - The pool was just big enough with plenty of sun beds around for us, there is a lovely small stairway down to the rocks from where you can get into the sea for a swim too.
The town is brimming with restaurants so you have plenty of choice. - only a few minutes walk away to the harbor and the town. The Beach too is well worth going to, just a wonderful setting of a backdrop of mountains as you laze on the sunbeds, wonderful sand and warm sea to swim in.
A perfect spot - will certainly be going there again.
Calvi, Corsica
e_chadwickon 25/09/2016 17:31Hotel very clean and rooms were adequately furnished and serviced well and regularly. Restaurant food is somewhat unusual with some strange dishes and combinations served at times. (Plenty of rice and fish). Breakfast is hectic with a simple two slice toaster, to serve over 40 people, and queues for food. Only ever had scrambled egg, "sausages" and "bacon" for seven days!! Other choice of croissants and bread with preserves.
Unusual rule of "if you use the fridge in your room you will be charged 10 Euros per day"!!!! What!!!!
Samba the restaurant manager is a star and is always helpful and pleasant. He makes the hotel tick over. Excellent hotel location and the views are second to none.
Ask for a sea view with balcony and a high level floor. No lift so not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. Overall we had a very good week stay.
Perfect position
LA_Lady1950on 31/08/2016 15:28Hotel St Christophe is a basic 3 star hotel, situated in a prime position overlooking the sea and Citadel. There are 3 floors and no lift. The floors are numbered in reverse, so the top floor is the first floor. The people on reception (as stated in previous reviews) are not very welcoming. They hardly ever acknowledge you and rarely speak unless spoken to and then it is just cursory. However the staff at breakfast, are a delight; especially Anna and Samba. We had a slight issue with our room. I had booked a double sea view room with balcony and was given a side sea room with balcony. When I asked at reception if we could change to a front sea room, we were told that “you booked a sea view room, you have a sea view room. She then said that as we were staying for 2 weeks she would see if we could be moved for the second week. We followed this up but, it never happened. In retrospect, the side sea view was probably the better option as the sun blazed down on the front sea/Citadel view and the Citadel/pool view most of the day and the side sea view was cooler. The room itself was fine, albeit a little on the small side. The ‘so needed’ air conditioning was fantastic and very quiet. The double beds were actually twin beds pushed together, but rather comfy. The shower was great and there was a separate toilet; both were kept immaculate. Dressing gowns are provided and the towels are big and fluffy. The safe is free, but if you put anything in the fridge, you will incur a fee of 10 Euros per day. The walls of the room are thin and we could hear the conversations and the TV at night, of both rooms on either side of ours. Cleaning starts early so no need for an early morning wake up call if you need one. Wi Fi is free, when it works, and you need a new password every 3 days. The continental breakfast can be taken sitting on the balcony, overlooking the citadel. Basic yes, but more than adequate to set you up. There is a tiny bar in the reception area and a sheltered terrace area in which to sit outside. We had booked via Corsican Places and were told by the rep, at the welcome meeting, that they don’t book excursions, you had to book them yourself in the town. That was a first for us. We booked to see Corte - a beautiful old town. A sea trip - amazing rock formations and The Old Villages - the best trip. Calvi is a beautiful town with breathtaking scenery, lovely harbour, delightful cobbled streets and little discovery walks. We did find however that English is not widely spoken in Corsica, so it would be a good idea to have a smattering of French.
Ideal location
iankosborneon 26/07/2016 10:02Returned for a second time to this hotel. Location excellent. Room with sea view highly recommended. Restaurant and bar staff very friendly and efficient.
Downside is small car park with keys needing to be left at reception in case blocked in.
