Expect the minimum
PieterEgbertson 07/08/2013 14:36There was a bed, a shower, a chair. Suffocating hot but no fan, a parking that was full all the time so you had to find a place elsewhere; a quit room until 6 o'clock when cars leaving the car park made horrible noises; a manager who finds all sorts of extra charges when you leave. Have your breakfast elsewhere! At €69 for a double I had expected more.
good start to our cycling trip
Steve Pon 23/09/2012 17:39Started and finished a week of cycling in Loire at this hotel through 'Hooked on Cycling'. Closest station is 15km away in Beagency and after delayed flight from UK and 2 trains we arrived much later than planned at about 9 pm in Beagency but could not get a taxi despite the help of a local hotel in Beaugency.
Called owner of Hotel St Cyr whose English is limited but after he could not find a taxi firm who would come he kindly turned out himself and drove to Beaugency to pick us up. Dinner served at 7.30pm and no choice but they provided us with a nice 3 course meal when we arrived at 10 pm. Breakfast and evening meal of good quality and staff very friendly and helpful. They arranged taxi for our return to Beaugency station a week later, and opened for breakfast 30 mins early on our last day so we could eat before setting off.
Secure storage for bikes which I think they own. Rooms simple but clean and reasonable size with fridge and hairdryer and bath. Would recommend.
They are only interested in your money !
ginger_and_fred_9on 26/08/2010 10:56First of all I would like to inform readers of this review that we are used to more comfortable hotels or guestrooms / B&B where clients are treated with respect.
When we arrived we received our keys and were told that our room was on the second floor and we were shown the stairs (no show of the room etc...or asked if we needed help with our luggage). But this is not a major problem for us. The room was small, bathroom was indeed renewed, but à la Française - not as it should be. When we went to the toilet it made an enormous noise. We also heard these of our neighbours. Very nice when you need to go at night...
The bathtub was not renewed, only new tiles ;-) so it looks half new, isn't it? You could not hang the shower up and I with only 1.57 m could not stand under it, I needed to sit down to wash my hair.
Breakfast was a variation from yoghurt, cheese, ham, butter, jam, corn flakes, self-made cake, bread, croissants, ....and so much more. Even Damman tea. So no complaints on the breakfast.
We received an arrangement of 3 nights, 1 day hiring of bikes and a pick nick. We thought to use the bikes on day 2 and then also the pick nick, but on the first morning we received our pick nick. We said that we didn't ordered it yet and that we should need it the day afterwards, but it was not possible. Is this a correct way to treat your guests? What we expect is that the owner discuss these things with the guests. And as we speak French I don't see any miscommunication.
Day 2 the owner informed if we needed any tickets to visit the castles in the neighbourhood, as he sold them at a better price. And day 3 he asked if we didn't stay over for dinner.....this gives me a little bit a feeling that earning money is more important then the satisfaction of your guests.....
The first night we also took a drink at the terrace. Tables and chairs were dirty, but we found one OK one and then he brought our drinks. My champagne was not cooled ! The terrace has not been cleaned during these 3 days. The ashtrays were full of cigarettes and stayed full. It rained, everything stayed the same....
Now it's up to you if this 2-star hotel is worth his price and comfort. According to us not!
The hotel is situated at a cross road with a D-way.
Don't stay here, it is too noisy.
Taxedouton 12/09/2009 11:16We spent four nights here pre booked, room was very small, toilet seat was broken and didn't get fixed, lamps were not working, doors would not shut, main sewer became blocked and the smell was awfull all day, constant heavy goods vehicles go past 24/7 traffic noise is deafening. The manager does not seem at all concerned at the poor standard of service, he is not well suited to his role, very amateurish,
Bar prices are outragious for this level of "guest house"
We cannot recomend the Auberge accross the road either, same over the top prices , poor menu, one of the worst meals we have ever had. Pity cos its a nice village.
Wonderful place, they made you feel at home!
kiwifernon 11/10/2005 05:30We stayed at Hôtel Saint-cyr the first day into a 10 day cycle trip around the Loire Valley. What a standard they set! After cycling for 5 hours in 35 degree heat, the owner/operator was so wonderful and after settling into our clean, large, comfortable room, placed two deck chairs under the tree and filled us full of belgium beer. The perfect way to finish a days ride!
The hotel is well placed and an allowed us an easy morning ride to Chambord chateau the next day.
The village had about 5 places to eat, and the local pizzeria provided plenty of sustanance for the next days ride.
In short, if you are on a bike trip, or want to stay in the countryside around Chambord, I'd throughly recommend this Hotel. They have a secure garage to store bikes and provide a delicious breakfast. My only regret is not being able to buy the homemade jam and wines they have for sale.
