Decent for being the cheapest lodging in Geneva

I booked a room at Hotel St-Gervais because at about $90 it was among the cheapest.

The staff was very helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was simple (yogurt, bread, and jam) but a nice addition. There are shared bathrooms but I never had trouble finding an open one--possibly because I showed at odd hours, but the bathrooms were always clean.

My complaints are largely with the room I stayed in, 700 on the top floor. It had a sloped ceiling and at 6' I often found myself hitting my head when getting in and out of bed. Also, it's my understanding that very few buildings in Geneva have A/C. It was too hot inside to sleep comfortably, and although the front desk told me how to put the radiator on the cool setting, it had hardly any effect (nor did opening the windows). Some nights I had to wet a towel and put it on my forehead just to get comfortable.

The bed in that room wasn't too comfortable, and during my two night stay I noticed that the middle of it was sinking more and more as I laid down in it. During my last night the bed suddenly collapsed and the mattress fell through. I figured out that the slats weren't secured and I came up with a hasty fix for it. The bed started sinking later though and I'm sure it'll do it again without a proper repair.

The location is good. I might be willing to stay here again if I was placed in another room and it was during a cooler part of the year. I stayed in May and can imagine that the rooms get uncomfortably warm around July and August.

Surprised how easy it was to find the hotel, literally walk out of the airport, jump on the number 10 bus into Geneva and its a 30 second walk! They also give you a travel pass to go on the buses, trams, trains and boats for free (within reason), very polite and helpful staff, the woman on arrival gave us maps and told us where to go, what buses to get etc, she made it very easy to navigate around Geneva! The rooms were great value, shared bathroom didn't bother me as we had a sink in our room at least so we could brush our teeth, the room however was very very hot, but when you open the window it is too noisey to sleep, so the only issue I had was lack of sleep, but thats not the hotels fault, its a busy thriving city so it is to be expected!

Very conveniently located near public transportation

Hotel St-Gervais is in the central part of the city and close to the UN offices and other international organisations. In a very expensive city, Hotel St-Gervais offers an affordable room-rate. The challenge is that the rooms have no shower/bathroom/toilet, as these are shared facilities on each floor.

Great location, brilliant staff. Nice for a basic stay.

Brilliant location less than 5 minutes from the train station also really close to bus links which we used. We were given a free travel card at check in which was great. All the staff we spoke to couldn't have been more friendly and helpful they gave us advice on how to get to places and transport etc and got us extra pillows and coffee when we asked. The breakfast each morning was basic but lovely and did the job (my mum keeps commenting on how nice the croissants were). Also worth noting how good the wifi was as well which is rare in hotels! All in all a brilliant stay :)

It does state on the hotel information that the bathroom is shared. It's not the ideal situation but it was fine enough. You only share with 2 other rooms and each time we needed to use it there was no one else in there and it was clean. The room was small but again we expected this from the pictures.

Ideal for Stopover

The hotel is at a conveniently short distance from the main train station and also within easy walking distance of the city centre. We encountered a nice and courteous reception. We had a very nice clean room on the highest floor (had to carry our luggage one floor up) with a clean and well functioning bathroom. Quiet. Good breakfast included. Well functioning free Wifi. Easy on storage of luggage the other day. Good price/performance ratio. Given other reviews, one may have to be a bit critical as to what room one gets, but our experience was certainly very good.
