    Horse riding

My wife and daughter had their first riding lesson here. I went with Luciano for a 3 hour ride in the hills. Horses were very good and relaxed. Luciano is a wonderful guide and the area is breathtaking. I highly recommend this for families to go horseriding. Experienced or not. Was a great experience.

    A week in the hills

My friend and I stayed here as part of a week long horse riding tour. The rustic buildings are nestled in a scenic part of Sicily where you can see vineyards on the next hill and the sea in the distance. The wisteria growing around the terrace and wine barrels dotted along made it feel warm and comfortable. Nico was hilarious and a very gracious host. We made the most of the swimming pool on the hot days. However, there are a few things that need to be improved. We stayed in a 2 bed room with ensuite. There was no air-conditioning and no fan in our room, which meant we tried leaving the door open one evening and got eaten by the determined local mosquitoes as there were no fly screens. I was bitten twice by one of the German Shepherds which was very alarming. We loved the food and felt very welcome and at home, so it certainly wasn't an unpleasant trip. When there is air-conditioning and fly screens I will be the first to give it an excellent review. Until then, enjoy the rustic qualities, the beautiful scenery and the welcoming atmosphere.

Rural charm, breathtaking scenery, and a wonderful riding holiday.

Luogo Marchese is a ranch and a bed and breakfast offering riding holidays with Sicily Horse tours and the opportunity to explore the North West part of Sicily from a base in the Madonie National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty. I put this in because I think, reading some of the other reviews that the people visiting had not done their research properly and obviously expected 5 star accommodation which is not what Luogo Marchese is about. It is about rural charm and absolutely fabulous scenery. Nico, the guy who runs the place is incredibly charming and helpful and provides delicious meals on the terrace overlooking the sea, mountains and vineyards. If you're visiting when wasps are active you can take your breakfast in the charming indoor dining area and they are not active in the evenings! I came with my daughter and partner for a riding holiday and Luciano, Selena, and Kiara looked after us perfectly and gave us the most wonderful 6 days of riding which will never forget (and hope to repeat). Riding all day out into the mountains or down to the beach; visiting lovely little mountain villages like Pollina, Castelbuono, and Isnello for lunch or a picnic above the clouds was spectacular. Our horses were chosen to suit our capability and we fell in love with all of them. It was hot when we visited but cooler up in the mountains and in the forests. Never the less coming home to Luogo Marchese after 6/7 hours in the saddle and jumping into the pool with its breathtaking views was always a great moment. To follow this up with beer on the terrace reading, or resting, or going for a little walk, while waiting for out delicious supper - well it doesn't get much better. Our rooms were comfortable and spacious and any problem (just one - a faulty shower-head) was sorted immediately. Everyone who worked at the ranch was friendly and cheerful and made us feel very at home. On the days when we were not riding Luogo Marchese proved to be a perfect base for visiting places like Cefalu, and the less visited but still very interesting and beautiful interior of the North West. The beach at San Ambrogio, just 15 minutes away is beautiful and never crowded. Palermo is only an hour away.

All in all Luogo Marchese is a fabulous place to stay and Sicily Horse Tours who provide the riding do a really great job at giving you a unique and incredibly enjoyable way of seeing the wild side of Sicily on lovely horses.

    Overnight stay with a difference

We stayed overnight in this picturesque Agri Turismo farm house & couldn't stop wondering & exploring the area. Accommodation in the proximity of the farmhouse & very well maintained. Parking secured & surrounded with animals was a unique experience. The Owner & helpers were very helpful with all our needs. We also had dinner to avoid driving down hill & the food was excellent. I strongly recommend this wonderful place.

This is a bed and breakfast.
I arrived late, greeted by the owner who was nice enough to provide a ventilator since the rooms have no AC.
I took out my pyjama, took a shower, killed 2 flies on the wall who were begging for mercy, clapped 2 mosquitoes, stepped on a coachroach and pointed the ventilator at me for the whole night.
The morning after, I got my bags directly to the car, drank an espresso and escaped quickly from this.
I was in Sicily for 17 days, working and shooting, and had no time not to be able to rest comfortably every night.
The owner is nice, his intentions are good and he is trying his best...
But sometimes battles are lost way in advance.
