A brilliant Budget B&B
otelon 02/04/2014 21:10We only spent one night at San Lorenzo B&B as our apartment rental finished the day before we were due to travel to Pisa. We were warmly greeted on arrival at 11.00 am, shown our room, which was basic, but comfortable. We had no problems with hot water, or the toilets. The heating was on and the room was very clean. The bed was comfortable. We had a nice breakfast the next morning in the common room/kitchen. During the day we had made several cups of tea, with all the ingredients provided freely by the owner. On the day we were due to leave we left our bags there till 4.00pm which was very convenient.
The location is perfectly situated for the Duomo, the Central market and all the other attractions.
We will certainly return to this lovely place again
Wonderful Location and Host
Cr Won 06/12/2013 23:51You couldn't ask for a better location and a better host. Very helpful in giving us information on places to go. Bathroom could be cleaner and lift/entrance was a bit awkward, but this was minor. Breakfast was what you would expect in Italy - pastry and capuccino. Noise was not bad as the plaza closed up at a decent time. You really could get to just about every where by walking. We will stay there again on our next trip.
Nightmare Experience - Great Location
Jenny Jon 17/10/2013 16:24Originally, I had booked with Duomo View B&B. On arrival in Florence, I was received at Duomo View B&B and they had given my room away for some reason and I was walked 2 blocks to this Sister Property. Phillipo, the proprietor of Duomo View was great for service, marking up a map with things to do and see, providing advice, and even carrying my luggage all the way to the new lodgings. That was the best service I had for the full 4 days I was in Florence. Ludovico, the proprietor of San Lorenzo property was not considerate as the resto of my review will show. I paid for one experience and received something COMPLETELY different. At first I was excited because i had a private bathroom but on further inspection, found it was filthy, moldy, and infested with mosquitos. The toilet would barely flush and would take multiple flushes to even remove a few scraps of toilet paper. The shower was barely a trickle of water. For two days I had no hot water. And on another day, there was NO WATER.
They had placed me in a room beside a common kitchen which all guests were allowed to use. People would sit in the kitchen and loudly make a dinner or watch movies at night, preventing any rest. In the morning, Ludovico would begin assembling the breakfasts which were burnt pastries covered with powdered sugar, stale toasts, and instant coffee. Additionally, all of the kitchenware was avaliable to the common kitchen so the dishes were crusted with filth... you coldn't be sure if the last person had simply licked the spoon clean and placed it in the rack to be used in the morning.
I was woken up 3 out of the 4 mornings by Ludovico and a maintenance person arguing loudly outside my door. One morning they were HAMMERING through the bathroom wall at 7:45 to get to the pipes. There was no offer to move me, no apologies for the disturbance, and no service to speak of.
In addition, the room wsa filthy. The floor was gritty with dust and dirt, the bedspread had stains on it, the blankets were covered with hairs from other guests, and the walls were smeared and scuffed. I was eaten all over by what I can only hope were mosquitos. Additionaly, i was taken violently ill one day and this was the day they were working on my bathroom. There was no offer to provide me other accommodations and or place to be sick and clean up.
The experience was terrible and I will be writing a review on every site I can find warning against this B&B. As a solo female traveler I did not feel well rested or safe here.
The only positive aspect of this B&B was the location, meerly 2 blocks away from the Duomo. So if you don't care about showers, breakfast, or sleeping, you can stay here.
VERY HOMELY ATMOSPHERE!
Borerton 12/09/2013 18:49We booked a room with a private bathroom at this hotel's 'annex', and they transferred our reservation to "B&B San Lorenzo". We were aware of that before the cancellation due and decided to stay and the given hotel. Which we did not regret at all. :)
Hotel was very well located, in San Lorenzo square, adjacent to San Lorenzo cathedral. Walking distance to most Florence landmarks including the Santa Maria Novella station. The room was clean with warm colors. The automatic check in was easy and really cool. Breakfast the second day was tasty, we had it in the kitchen between the rooms, Ludivico took out the croissants fresh from the oven, he was also helpful and nice and gave us the best points to visit while our stay in Florence.
The atmosphere of the kitchen was very friendly, we had the feeling like we were sharing a cosy apartment with old friends.
When we got in, there was no hot water in the shower, but it was fixed the next day.
Still good value for money
Lives4Travel77on 30/07/2013 21:20I have written a previous review for this B&B and most of my comments still stand. My husband and I stayed for three nights just couple weeks ago and were once again welcomed by Ludovico into the B&B. We were given a different room this time, and although the size of the room was about the same, the bathroom was a little smaller (and felt crowded). My husband, who is 6'5 banged his head the first time he entered the bathroom as the door frame is quite low. Unfortunately, he didn't always remember to duck! We did not have this issue in the room we had last time.
Breakfast was delivered to our room on a tray at our requested time each morning. It was always the same, but was just enough to get us started on our day. The air conditioning worked wonderfully, which is definitely a must when visiting Florence in the summer!
Other reviewers have commented on lack of cleanliness, and this is the one area where B&B San Lorenzo could improve (especially the showers). A fresh coat of paint on the wall would do wonders! That being said, we will definitely stay here again if we visit Florence. You cannot beat the location and the price!
