Bar I reef

beachlover4551065on 27/07/2017 00:45

We were lucky to book F21- it was recently remodeled- beautiful kitchen and showers. 3 bed 3 bath, most impressive was the huge ground floor patio. It was so nice and spacious. My family said the beds were a little too firm but I slept great every night. Housekeeping came 2 x a week. I will always request this unit when I come back. The bari reef was so fun to explore. We snorkeled all day. Eddy's- the onsite restaurant has great food and live music tues and thurs. I would have loved to have use of the restaurant and bar for lunch or poolside drinks but it was closed except for dinner. We rented a truck to explore and was so happy we did. We did a sail tour with woodwind sail. It was exceptional. Took a water taxi to Klein Bonaire- 15 $ per person very good time! Snorkeled all day there too. The grounds of the Sanddollarbonaire are a little run down but we were there for the snorkeling. You can't beat the location. Constant cross wind means you really don't need the a.c. in the living room( it is 70$ extra) we felt safe all over the island but of cousin took the advice of others and left our windows down and truck unlocked.

Great Week at Sand Dollar

Stayed 8 nights in unit D9. Overall a nice condo....nothing fancy but comfortable and clean. Staff at Sand Dollar was very nice and went above and beyond in multiple ways. Complex was quiet which we totally enjoyed. Good food options at Eddys and Breezes and Bites. Would not hesitate to stay at this facility again.

Sand Dollar E-11 Bonaire

A wonderful 2 bedroom 2 bath unit ground floor with screened in patio for meals. The owner was wonderful and always available and timely with suggestions of what to do on island, where to eat and very timely in getting back to us. The trade winds blew every day and we ate all our meals in the screened patio. The reef was just steps from the unit and the new dive company has made carts available to handle dive gear to the two ladder locations just steps from E-11. The pier was just being refurbished and ladder entry with the carts provided added access to the reef. After 42 visits to Bonaire this couldn't have been better.

Spacious, convenient condos at a reasonable price.

I have stayed in this complex three times renting directly from an owner one time through VRBO and then from gotobonaire the second and third times. The units we rented were large and comfortable but not perfect and each was a bit dated. However, keep in mind that it can be very difficult to get western style appliances, furniture, and supplies for updating on an island that is extremely remote from western countries. Once we came in January. The owner of our unit asked us to bring an electric alarm clock for which she would compensate us because the one in the condo had broken. However, the clock we brought was not fully compatible with the local electrical current and it could not keep accurate time. We then went looking for, but could not find, one single electric alarm clock on the whole island. We did find one wind up clock which we bought. Probably you have a better chance of renting a unit in better condition if you do it directly from an owner who has a lot of good reviews.

Having said that, one of the most important factors in making our decision to rent was to find a unit upstairs with a screened in porch. Bonaire can have a lot of mosquitos and the screening allowed us to really take advantage of the very large outdoor deck. Being upstairs also meant we could leave our dive gear out to dry and we didn't have to be concerned about someone cutting through the screen to get it. From a security standpoint it also allowed us to just leave our slider doors from the bedroom and living room open and catch the on-shore breezes to cool our unit. Although all the units we rented all had split-minis (AC) we much preferred the natural breezes and fans to running an AC all the time.

There are several onsite options for renting tanks. The one we chose was right by the pier and, in addition to their truck drive up station, they placed tanks (including nitrox tanks) right on the pier so it was easy to suit up and dive the house reef anytime if we were too lazy to get in our truck to drive to a dive site or didn't want to do a boat dive.

It has been about five years since our last visit and my understanding is that there have been a lot of improvements in the complex as a whole. Unless you are looking for a five star accommodations, you should be happy you chose to stay at the Sanddollar.

Sand Dollar has a great reef behind it, Bari. They are in the process of updating rooms and the rooms that have been updated are great.
All rooms face the water and the sunsets are beautiful.
The staff are very helpful.
