Awesome!
evekikion 03/06/2017 21:32I stayed for 1 week at Tropical sandies village in Malindi last year 22.08-28/08 and had an awesome experience.
Hotel grounds and facilities:
Totally loved the feel of the hotel architecture. The thatched roofing and whitewashed walls really gave it a rusty afro look.
The courtyards facing the rooms were meticulously maintained with mowed lawns, beautifully manicured bougainvillea lawns and scattered frangipani trees that adorned the air with its delicate fragrance.
The rooms had no TVs but this was okay for us as we could really unwind at night.
The rooms are spacious (we had 221) unfortunately the bathroom design is poorly executed as the shower is not enclosed in anyway and each time we took a shower, the water would spill over to the corridor. The lighting in the rooms is also not the most
optimal in case you enjoy reading a book before bed.
The buffet area was open and clean. The waiters were extremely attentive to all our needs. Each room is assigned a table in the restaurant, of course you can request a change when one room checks out. Has pros and cons especially if you end up behind the large open air cookery air with no view to the pool and ocean.
The pool was big and had shady patches below baobab and palm trees. Edward was the pool guy and like all the other employees, was really attentive to our needs after one day, he knew our preferred pool spot and would set up our sunbeds when he saw us coming.
WIFI is free of charge but only available at the reception area. if you are lucky, like we were, we could some times connect to the WIFI from our room although the signal was very weak.
The beach was covered in seaweed, but this is totally out of the control of the hotel. The beach boys/women can be very pushy and a source of irritation. Just haggle for everything
Food & Beverage
We had an all inclusive package. Totally advisable as there are no restaurants in the vicinity. The buffet costs 1500KES (€15) if you don't have an all incl package.
Hard drinks and cocktails (for the all incl. package) are only available from 6pm, however throughout the day, you can consume as much soda, beer, house wine, tea and coffee as you desire.
The lunch and dinner menu selections were varied but not too overwhelming. We always had a selection of beef, fish, grill, pasta dishes and local african delicacies. In short, something for everybody!
Activies and excursions:
The hotel offers excursions to Shimba hills, Watamu and Malindi marine parks. We did neither of them. For the marine parks, the hotel was charging 35USD.pp
People
For me, the staff at Sandies left a lasting impression on me. They were open and friendly and gave me the impression that they loved what they were doing. to name but a few:
Pamela at the beach bar was such a joy to chat with about everything and nothing in between sips of shandi (sprite and beer).
Muli was at the bar and boy he can mix one mean planters punch :-)
Osman, such a lovely yung man with a smile to light up any room was also at the bar and a self proclaimed mixologist.
In the evenings, there was disco or some other event organized at the pool area. Baraza and Charity were the "animators" and did such a good job that my not dancer boyfriend spent every night there grooving to oldies and hits.
In short, i would recommned this hotel to absolutely everybody. I have just booked my trip and will be there this August, cant wait!

Victor Ron 13/04/2017 10:06Enjoyed a staff retreat and planning at this facility. The ambience was fantastic, the ocean view and swimming pool were calming. I was here on the eve of Valentine Day and the hotel prepared fantastic dinner for all the guests residing at this hotel. This is a place to visit while in Malindi
Lovely place
Allan Mon 31/03/2017 12:03I stayed here for a week. I totally loved the ambience, the food, the evening entertainment, the big beautiful pool. The beach. Everything was just amazing. The staff very friendly and helpful. I'd stay here again.
Nice hotel
G Non 09/03/2017 22:23Traveled here over New Year's. Staff were alright, reception alternated between great and plain depending on who was manning it.
Food was good though it could get a bit monotonous. The pool area and bar by the beach were amazing. Drinks offered on all-inclusive package are quite limited in choice so plan accordingly.
Luckily the hotel has quite a lot of things to do and places to visit that are not too far off.
Lots of games and evening fun activities that would probably make it fun if you travel with kids.
The New Year activities the hotel had planned were a great idea, quite enjoyable.
