What People are saying

Excellent refurbished hotel

janetteteagueon 20/08/2017 18:17

Just had a week at this hotel. Had 2 lovely rooms with balconies on the first floor.
Rooms were lovely. Walkin shower with permanent hot water. Issue about drawers or shelves but not a deal breaker. Pool area. Clean and always sun beds available. Yes it is below the motorway but again unimportant. Lovely bar for drinks and snacks.
Only had breakfast but that was superb. Chef there to cook eggs. Fabulous choice of hot and cold. Refurbished and reopened in May. They have done a great job.
The staff couldn't be better. Pedro, Tatianna and Olga. Thank you.
There is a courtesy bus to Funchal, which we used, even though the buses stop over the road. On a Sunday the yellow bus takes you up into the mountains. Worth a trip. Hotel also organised a private driver for the day.
The small town is very close. A few good restaurants. Even though you have to queue at tapas bar. It's worth it. Can recommend the local garlic bread! And the poncha drink!
Shop next door for extra goodies and cafe. The promenade is a nice walk anytime.
Very impressed and would definitely recommend this hotel.

good location

My friend and I have just returned from The Santa Cruz village hotel, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Still a few niggling problems in the room, No draws or tea making facilities. .no drying area for wet clothes, from Staff on reception were lovely and tried to solve our draw problem with some folding camping draws. It worked. All the staff we met were lovely. Room very clean. Breakfast was adequate. The chef was most helpful, if you wanted eggs scrambled or fried, you only had to ask.I had visited the hotel before the renovations. A very big difference. Lovely, Sandra from Loughborough, Leics

Renovated and well maintained horrible staff

The hotel is well renovated and maintained. The staff is horrible and the service they provide is irritating.
Breakfast is a joke. Grumpy waiters and every day the same breakfast. The atmosphere in the night at the restaurant is worse.
Poolbar closes at 1900 and no minibar in the rooms. They just don't get it if you talk about hospitality.
Santa cruz itself is very small and there is not much to do.

Relaxed holiday in lovely location

This is our fourth time at this hotel but the first since its refurbishment, the hotel before was called Santa Catarina and was more than adequate, we could not believe the transformation on our recent visit and love the new name, Santa Cruz Village. The entire hotel had been refurbished to a very high standard, the restaurant and foyer areas were lovey and welcoming, breakfast was superb and the rooms had been totally transformed, congratulations to the new owners , you.h ave done a wonderful job.

One small criticism, there was no tea & coffee facility in the room albeit the website does advertise that there is. We love Santa Cruz and now we especially love The Village Hotel

just like a new hotel

we stayed here the first week in may 2017, the hotel as been revamped to a very high standard . all the hotel is very very nice . the staff were very good nothing to much trouble for them and always looked after with a big smile. we was on half board breakfast is not brilliant but was getting better as the week went on they still had a few tweeks to make but was listening to everyone and making them . the evening meal is a smaller choice than the full menu but the food was fantastic;. hats off to the chef. having read the reviews before we went we was in two minds weather to go .. but i can assure everyone that ALL the previous issues they had have been fully resolved ... at this place you get more than value for money . treat and fed like kings ..
