Good bad and ugly

The good bits. The rooms are large and the beds are typical Marriott beds, very comfortable. The hotel has good manicured grounds and it is on the beach which is clean, soft sand and clean water. The kids loved the beach and the waves. There is also a lovely pool near the beach and a couple at the back of the hotel near the kids club.

The hotel staff try very hard despite a language barrier, the wonders of internet translators were very helpful at times or they will call over staff that can help.

The family package included round trip transfer to the airport, free kids drinks, 4 hours use of the kids club, discounted food and a kids pizza, (however see comment on food below)

The bad. The hotel is a bit tired and in need of some renovation or some TLC. It has probably not been upgraded for quite a while and it is showing it's age.

The ugly. The restaurants are very expensive and I don't know what they have done to the food but it's awful. I would suggest go to the restaurant immediately outside the hotel where there is a small shopping centre with 3 restaurants. We only went to the first one, 4 nights in row. It's about a third of the price and the food is excellent.

The breakfast was included in our room rate and is quite extensive but we found it hard to find anything that looked appetising. It became a running joke. I think most of the food had been previously frozen then thawed out so it looked rancid. Get there early as the queue can be quite long since it's included and the entire hotel arrives from about 8.15. The rest of the time the restaurants are quite empty.

we had a great pleasure to be at this hotel with our 2 kids and grandparents. i cannot say enough about hotel's management and hosts. everybody was accommodating and thoughtful. in fact we had punctured a hole in a wheel of our stroller. one of hotel staff persons took it and found a place to fix it in sanya. though he was not working the following day when we had to leave, he sent it with another staff member to deliver it to our door. Hotel General manager, Jim Khoo, would personally stop by to greet people, including us, at a fantastic breakfast buffet. we truly felt welcome in a completely foreign country. Spa was amazing and relaxing, and our kids took full advantage of multitude of kids rooms with toys and children activities. we loved many swimming pools and the beach. we highly recommend the place and cannot wait to come back.

If you want to rest, this hotel is not Not for you: screamings at any time, swimming pool is full of kids,
If you want to do sport, unfortunately there are no activities at the hotel
The staff do not speak English or any other languages
Rooms are old
Cleaning is just to say you have staff in your room but do not expect a good cleaning
At the end choose another hotel and write to the Marriott to explain how bad effect this hotel has on the trade mark!!!

Very pretty but not welcoming

Like all the rope-end resorts in Yalong Bay the Marriott was set in beautiful grounds with both a swimming pool complex and a private beach.

They also offered a superb breakfast menu as part of the package.

Unfortunately I found that the ambience did not match the setting.
As well as a list of rules around what you could not do, many of which were only to benefit the hotel's image, the staff were not very helpful and gave the impression that the guests were in the way of them doing their job. For example, at breakfast the staff clearing tables were pushing in front of the guests as they weaved through the tables, and when I tried to get a table for two because my wife was on her way down, suddenly nobody understood a word I was saying and forced me to sit at a bench with only room for one.
The pool service was likewise very second rate in most cases.

The other annoying trick was the pricing of snacks and restaurant meals was all very over-inflated, like three times the price of the same item at a shopping centre a five minute drive away.

These are not big things, but when there are a number of other big-name resorts in the same area, I will be going somewhere else next time.

Beautiful hotel

Booked four rooms in this hotel to stay with family, unfortunately we were only staying one night. I thought the hotel was stunning!

The lobby area is luxurious and looks stunning on arrival. We had our Chinese speaking daughter in law with us which made the check in process easier but receptionist did seem to have some grasp of English. Our room was upgraded and we had a fantastic view over the bay and grounds of the hotel.

We ate in the main restaurant and descended rather late after 10 pm but we were served a lovely meal with very helpful staff even though we were the only people in the restaurant and they were obviously preparing for the morning.

The bed was super comfortable, room spotless, good supply of toiletries, etc.

Breakfast was a feast, lots of choice, many stations serving many different types of cuisine. We all enjoyed breakfast sat outside overlooking the lovely gardens.

The pool is fantastic, laid out on different levels. We walked to the beach, about 200 yards from hotel and there were lots of available sunbeds with parasols to sit on. Sea looked very powerful but there was a sectioned of part with a life guard watching. I probably wouldn't have gone in if I wasn't a very strong swimmer.

The beach went on for miles, crisp white sand and views were amazing

Check out was again straightforward. We booked transport to hotel and I would recommend you doing this as it made journey from airport very straightforward.

Our son and daughter in law arranged a boat trip through hotel info and this was excellent.

I was very nervous about visiting China but enjoyed staying her so much making plans to go back to Hainan1
