What People are saying

Unforgettable stay

Keiko Mon 21/08/2017 04:59

This hotel was a balm in Japan. My husband chose to celebrate our 32th wedding anniversary. In addition to my dream, to visit Sapporo: the land of my mother, grandparents and great-grandmother.
The hotel is a classic, very well maintained and the hotel staff was beyond what we expected, they go out of their way to help us. The room was spacious and very beautiful, comfortable, clean, making it an unforgettable stay. They helped me find the address where my family lived long time ago.
The breakfast was a delightful surprise everyday and we could choose from the different restaurants in the hotel.
Excellent location, with an underground pedestrian walkway leading to the station.
When I return to Sapporo, I would like to stay at this hotel again.

Second time

Sammy Lon 05/08/2017 20:04

This is our second stay.

Booked through hotel.com. Rate wasn't extortionate.

Location - top. Walking distance to many places.

Tonnes of restaurants nearby and in the hotel. Jazz bar looks good. Life good quality jazz.

Room - v good size by Japanese standard. Afterall it costs more than others.

Service is what I wld categorise as robotic. Pleasant / polite - but not flexible and doesn't give the "at home" feel.

Rooms are a little dated - but I guess so are most other rooms in Japan.

Parking available at 1500 yen per night.

Personally I prefer the Park Hotel - which I believe is part of the same group. Not sure.

Probly will come back - but that's due to location and size of room.

Lots of options

We spent three nights at this hotel at the beginning and end of our Hokkaido tour. Our first room was in an older wing and it was a bit cramped with twin beds. There was no thermostat for the aircon and it never got cool enough to be comfortable. Everything else worked OK. On our last night they put us in a new wing and there was considerably more room and upgraded furnishings. The aircon worked much better and we were very comfortable. Our breakfast was included and we ate at two of the three restaurant options. The international buffet was substantial with plenty of choices and good food. We ate at the Japanese traditional restaurant the other two days. It was an interesting experience, but very Japanese and repetitive with few options to choose from. The hotel location is very convenient and we were able to rent bicycles and hire a car within the hotel.

Food poisoning in a 5 star hotel!

Chong Aon 20/07/2017 14:22

I was perfectly fine checking into the hotel after a flight from Singapore.feeling Flemish I explore the options and decided to dine in the hotel which was promoting a set meal for quests. The price was reasonable. But the quality of food rather disappointing. The promotion was Mongolian style bbq lamb. Quite gamy but cooked. So I suspect it was the pickled mackerel which gave me the poisoning. That night I felt queasy . And in the middle of the night I had motion continence.what a mess! I have to wash up to hide my embarrassment. But on second thought I wasn't apologetic cause who caused me the mess.? A five star hotel! The location is fine and above the underground city but the room is so small. It really is not up to my expectation.

The experience really depends on how much you are willing to pay.....

We went there and stayed for 3nights with a non-breakfast package. The hotel is conveniently located near to the Ootori park and the shopping road susugi town, where you can find lots of shops and restaurants. So you will not be worrying about there is nothing to do at night.

We arrived at around 3pm and get the room key immediately. This time we booked the "run of the house" room type which means the hotel will give you whatever available. I swear I won't do this again as it is just a disaster to your journey. The hotel itself is divided into three parts, The Main building, The East building and The Annex building. We were assigned to a room in the Annex building. The deco of the lift lobby and corridor seems classic but we are fine.

After we enter the room we found it is the smallest room type of the hotel, with no view at all. (The window is not facing the street, instead it is facing the wall of the Main building). I totally feel we are congested in a can and pressed. The toilet is also disastrous. You cannot find any dirt and dust there, but with the gloomy light and the deteriorating facilities (honestly this hotel has been built for more than 7 decades), I feel really uncomfortable staying there. With our tight schedule, we drop off the luggages and then go out immediately.

After we come back at night, we suddenly think we have to stay here for 3 nights and I am really not willing to spend this rate ($13xx HKD/night) for this room. We decided to approach the Front desk and ask for paid room upgrade. Eventually the staff offer us to the comfort level room in The East building with JPY 8000 (HKD $560) supplement per night. We go ahead as We think it is within budget provided that the room is much spacious and comfortable, and the rate for this room type these several days are more than $2200. People may wonder the reason not to book this room type at the very beginning. I must say I really made wrong decision when booking.

Anyway, no matter the decor, room level, amenities and facilities are totally different. I cannot imagine this is from the same hotel. I understand some rooms are just refurbished so it makes more modern, but I totally cannot accept the old room. From our observation, we also find the Annex's room (old one) is catering for mass group (mainland tour, etc.)

Apart from that, the hotel itself is good and it is only 5 minutes walk from Sapporo station. Credit to the government, there is an underway to go directly so you need not worry about the weather even you are taking with you luggages.

Next time I will be smart enough to choose rooms in East or Main building. Remember, try to avoid Annex building room if you have budget.
