Scalford Hall anniversary visit
Brendan Fon 24/06/2017 14:07We had a wonderful wedding at this Hotel last year and for our anniversary we decided to come and see the beautiful Hotel and its beautiful setting again. As ever the staff were warm and welcoming and some recognised us from last year, the room was excellent, there was a wedding on but the bar service was good, we were treated like royalty at our evening meal which only adds to the charm of the hotel, the food was second to none.. a superbly cooked portion of lamb. We hope to make this an annual pilgrimage. We had a wonderful time in the local town of Melton Mowbray as there was one of the many summer festivals on at the time.
Nice Stay
PatsyAnne56on 22/06/2017 19:29Having read a few reviews we were slightly hesitant. Hotel is hard to find & stumbled upon it in end. Lovely driveway up to a grand old building.
Check in quick & room basic but comfy overlooking car park.
After many hours driving went to bar area for drink & food, unfortunately told no meals whatsoever available including afternoon tea until 7pm & told instead to go to local village pub. This seemed odd as never encountered a hotel not serving food. Unfortunately local pub also not serving till evening. In end went tesco Melton Mowbray.
However evening meal was superb, only 3 couples total eating in restaurant. The 3 course meal was well presented. My lamb meal was delicious, along with the cheesecake.
There was a Madness tribute band playing in the pavilion which was ticket only, so unable to enter but sounded so lifelike & brilliant music & great venue.
Breakfast was a disaster, restaurant full up. Asked to share a table with strangers. No cutlery or crockery out. Told to take seat & someone attend to us but didn't. Staff seemed inexperienced as what to do. No cups for tea, no hot water in urn. Then milk jugs empty. No spoons. Slow to replenish hot food for fry up.
In end was escorted into the Windsor Room where we had breakfast eventually in peace.
This is a lovely establishment but a little worn & could do with modernisation & training of staff.
Would stay again at this hotel, as I'm sure once staff trained up well that you will get a warm welcome and good service.
Awfully run business with ZERO customer service
on 21/06/2017 20:18ZERO STARS WOULD BE TOO MANY!
I feel I have been left with no choice but resort to social media to air my disgust at the customer service you provide. And also to warn others about the service that I and many friends have received!
After booking my room in early October for a close friends wedding I was never, EVER given or sent any confirmation of my booking. After 4 failed emails to yourselves I eventually gave up and rang the hotel for confirmation of my room. Customer service was bad, however I was prepared to accept this and attend our friends wedding regardless.
It's important that you know, when I booked the room it was around a 1 minute phone call with a female member of staff where I selected the dates and read out my card details. At NO POINT in this conversation was I told that my room was non transferable/refundable.
Fast forward to June of this year when I, unfortunately have tried to cancel my booking, in keeping with your cancellation policy might I add! And I have been left with various emails from the general manager stating that it was out of his control. I accepted that this may be an issue which needs to be dealt with by the hotel owner/director and was advised to contact him directly.
Our conversation has dragged on over various emails where he states that I don't actually have a booking and that you have checked your phone records and I quote "we have NOTHING from your mobile or landline number on Saturday 8th October". After then asking again for a refund to be processed I was told that you do have my booking and also have proof that I agreed over the phone that I would not be able to amend/cancel my room. After a succession of quick responses from yourselves I am now left being ignored with two outstanding emails to your owner where I have asked for PROOF of the conversation which you previously stated never took place as there is no record of it!
I WILL be taking legal action against this appallingly run establishment and only hope that people think twice before booking.
As of now I am still waiting for a reply to my last email asking for proof, something I know I will never receive as it does not exist!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Another great stay

No sleep at Scalford Hall
Dave Won 19/06/2017 10:43Not the easiest place to find, but thanks to Google maps we found it. First impressions as we drove up the drive were, wow, what a beautiful building and in a lovely quiet country setting too. Reception staff were friendly and polite but they dropped a bombshell after we had checked in. "The hotel is hosting a wedding today, but they don't have exclusive use of the facilities, you are most welcome to use the bar and restaurant if you wish" I would have expected to be informed when I booked about the wedding as it was bound to affect our stay, but the hotel didn't even have the courtesy to inform us. We found our room after what seemed like we had walked all round the hotel twice. The room was clean and presentable and overlooked the lawns to the rear of the hotel, we were relieved until we noticed the marquee to the left where the wedding seemed to be being held. However those fears were unfounded. The wedding party had moved into the main hall. The walls between our room and those adjoining were paper thin and we could hear the people in the room next to us talking! We decided to go to the bar for a drink, well that was a real eye opener. After literally climbing over some of the wedding guests to get into the small bar area, being jostled and bumped by inebriated wedding guests we were served by probably the least competent bar person I have ever encountered. We ordered a bottle of beer and a bottled soft drink, we had to ask for glasses, the barman poured the bottle of beer into a pint glass, then decided that was obviously way too big so then poured it from the pint glass into a smaller glass which was too small, so 1 bottle of beer in two glasses. The tale of woe doesn't stop there, we decided to eat away from the hotel, due to the anti social nature of the hotel wedding guests and our brief encounter with the inept bar staff. After returning to the hotel we went to our room where we could hear some of the wedding guests whooping and hollering outside in the garden, this continued until long after midnight. Then as the guests started to return to their rooms we were subjected to yelling, constant banging of room doors, obscene language and what sounded like a party in the corridor outside our door. Despite ringing three times down to reception we were unable to get an answer from the night porter. This may have been due to the fact he was using ladders to climb in through the window of the room next to ours. It was like something out of a scene from Faulty Towers!
Avoid this hotel like the plague, 3 stars, what a joke. This hotel has nothing to make it any better than a Travelodge or Premier Inn, where at least you are guaranteed a good night's sleep or your money back. The games room and the Gym were both closed during our stay. £129 for a sleepless night, inept service and a mediocre breakfast!
