Newly renovated
MirKatKilon 08/06/2017 07:13On our way to Joensuu we accommodated one night at this hotel. Staff was friendly and very helpfull. The rooms were newly renovated so they were nice and clean. Our room was unfortunately accross the market place from a night club so we could hear the music to our room. Breakfast was plentiful.
Excellent food and service
Andrew Gon 09/02/2017 17:39This is a comfortable hotel with sufficient facilities, well situated in Vakaus. The food is fresh, very tasty and well presented. The service is very good and I found the staff to be helpful. Various may be a small industrial town but the surrounding lakes and countryside offer plenty of sight seeing opportunities. I would not hesitate to return to Oscar.
Good hotel in Varkaus

I had a large and nice room on 3rd floor. In general it was clean and well kept.
Good breakfast in the morning and also the restaurant is good with a selection of fish/ meat/ burgers etc.
Nice and friendly staff.
Two things that needs to get fixed in order to a 4 from me.
-in the closet in my room I found an old and empty bottle. The shelf was full of dust so it can't have been cleaned for a long time.
- wifi: way to slow and unstable. Luckily I could connect my laptop via a cable.
Modest hotel in a small town
Anssi Pon 19/12/2016 17:33Hotel Scandic Oscar (from 1.1.2017 Hotel Oscar) has been part of the Scandic chain which is a well-known, good reputation Finnish hotel chain. Oscar is located near the paper mill, so I imagine it is mainly for business travellers (Varkaus itself is a widely spread small town). The room for two persons was surprisingly spacious. It was clean, peaceful and there was a lot of light (so much as you can have light in Finland on a cloudy December day). The room was modestly equipped, it did not have a minibar/fridge, for instance. As typical in S´candic hotels, the room price includes one 5 euro ticket that can be used in the hotel restaurant. Room rate was 105 euros per night which is as much as in bigger cities - tells perhaps of the lack of competition in the local hotel market.
Best for business trips
Milos Son 27/11/2016 09:19In short time I visited hotel two times and had very pleasant staying. Stuff is very professional and can fulfill almost all of your request. Rooms can be a bit larger. Using small gym and sauna was good after work relaxing moments. Oscar's pub is very comfortable with arcade area for familiarising with your colleagues and/or business partners. Since I came from Serbia prices for accommodation and bar/restaurant food and beverage are pretty high, but for Western European countries that might not be an issue
