Wonderful Spring Break
702Philon 14/04/2017 21:20Our first visit to Oberstdorf brought us to Schuele's for a healthy week. The warm welcome by the team and Mr. Schuele was leading to a very nice room in the new part with a fantastic view and sun all day on the balcony. Altough we had reduced "food" we enjoyed all of it and together with the walks in the area spent a healthy time. Everybody was very friendly, welcoming and professional. A real joy to have such well, family managed hotel. Gladly come back!
A very good, traditional German 4* Superior Family Hotel
RussianConnectionon 01/03/2017 14:16The hotel is situated in a very nice place, close to the mountains and the ski infrastructure. Oberstdorf is a quite and nice small town full of shops and restaurants. There are some places for young people and for families.
The Hotel is focused on the adult people. We were a bit younger (30+38) than the average guests, but it is not a clinic for old and disabled people how someone mentioned below =) It is a very nice place for wealthy German adults (around 45-60) with a specific atmosphere of relax and silence.
The rooms are well equipped. We had a room at the new building. It was clean, well designed, full of expensive furniture. The doors were thick and the silence was provided on the highest level.
The room was also equipped with the coffee machine. And a very good coffee by the way. So we managed to make coffee in the morning right in front of our balcony with an awesome look at the mountains =) before the breakfast.
The meals were rich, tasty, good German breakfast. Lots of cheese, sausages, salads, bakery, muesli. All you need to stay in comfort till the evening dinner.
We had a package of breakfast and evening meals included with a very reasonable price. The evening meals were provided with a good choice of meat, vegetarian and fish dishes. Great selection of German and European wines and local German fruit distillates.
The SPA branch looks very well, great pool without any smells, warm hall around the pool so you can sit there and look at the snow outside trough the big windows. Near the pool you may find a large sauna, steam bath, salt bath and stuff like that. All is large and designed for big crowds so even if there are more than 5-6 people around you do not feel discomfort. Be prepared that Germans visit sauna totally naked (all man and woman together) which may affect some cultural differences.
Massage was also good as well as the room for after massage relaxation.
The hotel has a large parking (free) and you may use it for your car. The travelling from Stuttgart Airport by car takes about 2,5 hours if the traffic is ok.
For relax, rehab, city escape this place is perfect and we liked it very much.
Special thanks to Mr. Schuele (the owner) - who does not hesitate to talk to the guests in person.
To criticize a little - the hotel web page is in German only. Mostly the hotel is oriented and focused on Germans. But we felt ok there.
Awesome location, great spa & food
WordTraveller88on 11/05/2016 15:28Great resort at edge of town. Walk or bike to many destinations. Great pool or spa at end of day. Shy ladies can use the lady's spa upstairs. Great restaurant with huge breakfast and even larger dinner. Stay at least 3 nights, better 2 weeks. Bavaria at its finest.
So many little things were not good, even if overall it was OK.......
ian Hon 30/11/2015 20:29Booked for a weekend break in November. Location is nice, with a lovely town and some good walks in the area. The hotel itself has an old and new part. We were in the old part and it felt old. The room was tired and very cold on arrival. We asked for reception to do something about this but they never bothered. The decor in our room was old fashioned and the bathroom fittings out of the 80's. An overhaul is required. There is a choice of pillows which we made use of, and the bed was comfortable. I think the rooms in the new block would probably be good - if you stay make sure you reserve one of these. The room was large and everything functioned well. Service is not a strong point. We arrived at 2.50 and checked into our room. at 3pm we asked reception if we could have something to eat and were told "no - it closes at 3pm". I think in most hotels they'd have made an effort to find you something. On the first night in the restaurant the food was just so, so, and the waiter rude. We changed table for the second night and both the food and service were much better. However they charged for tap water which I think is just so unnecessary! Breakfast choice is more 4 star than 4 star superior. My cappuccino was cold and made from an automatic machine - a long way from being good. The selection of breads was limited and service quite slow. The spa facility is excellent, with plenty of choices, a great indoor pool and excellent massage choice at good prices. It's split by not offering soap on any of the showers in the spa facility. I don't understand the logic of this. IF you can't wash off the oil from a massage, or the sweat from a work out, before using the sauna or pool, doesn't that mess up the experience for others? The fitness facilities were OK - the gym could use a better choice of weights, but the machines were good and new. Generally the reception staff were good and the Maitre D' was excellent. No English newspapers or magazines on offer ( but quite normal really). The wifi is free but incredibly slow - even the cable internet is not good.
nice, comfortable hotel with a special heath focus
himpelchenon 06/09/2015 19:12Nice hotel and grounds, not too far from town center.
Rooms are clean and comfortable, some with balcony.
Ladies Spa is newly renovated in the top floor and very nice and comfortable, but this area is only open to ladies as the name suggests. This is a pity when you are travelling as couple interested in Wellness. But others will be delighted with this females only option.
Spa in the lower ground floor is decent but not as nice as the other one. Resting area rather small, no blankets provided and to get a water you need to get to the entrance area - still overall good Spa area but just not what one would expect in a Spa Hotel...
Food is nice and plentiful, always in a good choice and variety and very well presented.
Target group are mostly elderly germans (70 or older) and the restaurant and service is tailored to this. Means the service is very helpful and caring, but you are given a certain table, means there is no free choice of table for you. If you want to defer from the usual routines (eg. having breakfast outside in the sun or changing the table or asking for a drink from the bar) staff is very surprised and some of them can come across a bit unfriendly upon such requests. But on the positive side: if you are elderly and can not carry your food from the buffet to your table or anything like this they seem to go out of their way to help and support. Maybe we were just not their target group and they were not used to younger guests.
Special: there are doctors having their practice directly in the hotel and they offer really good heath check ups!
