What People are saying

low-cost and good value

Pat931on 11/06/2017 19:00

I want to give this hotel a "very good" rating as it's well renovated and I had a very nice
double room with everything I needed for EUR 50 per night, including breakfast.
It is about the only hotel in the small town, which is still partly unrenovated since the
DDR times in Germany. Extremely clean with underground garage parking. If you arrive when reception is unmanned there is a 'hotelomat' next to the entrance so you can check in without any problem. My room was ready as early as 12 noon on day of arrival. You could not find better value elsewhere in Germany. I enjoyed my short stay.

Good hotel on the low cost plan

This hotel is something of an enigma. It was so modestly priced we expected the bill for our large suite to be bigger than it was. Breakfast was generous. However, the entrance is hard to find because the hotel sits on top of a shopping complex (with a good Greek restaurant). This means there is no grand entrance and the hotel is run to keep costs down. There isn't full reception, although this didn't cause us any inconvenience. The result is to give one the impression that the hotel is meaner than it is. In fact we had a very comfortable room with a great view of the Schloss and it was quiet. Great value for money. Greiz itself is a town of some charm, and the new concert hall is a sign that money is being invested, but some buildings are still in need of restoration.

Moderate

Not mich choice in Greiz.. Value for money. Not that good in service. Breakfast moderate. Rooms are OK, do mot expect anyrhing special.as said before. not much choice in town. A little outside Greiz you will fine Hotel Am Wald. Also basic, but very good service.

A Nice Hotel in a Rather Depressed Town

To start with, Greiz is literally all torn up! Many of the streets are under construction, others have been converted into one-way streets, etc. It drove our Garmin GPS crazy and only through following our nose did we find the hotel. The GPS finally takes you down a street that ends in an underground parking garage under the hotel, which is the only reasonable place to park.

You should follow the signs to "Hotel" while you are in the garage, and park near the elevator. The elevator goes directly up to the hotel entrance on I think the third floor.

The hotel is neat and safe. English was only spoken reasonably by one clerk. The room was clean and tidy and availble to us before the formal check-in time.

Breakfast was very generous and good.

The hotel is itself not a castle (Schloss), but at the foot of one of the two castles in town, the Oberes Schloss, which has an interesting self-guided tour.

A very pleasant stopover

A fine hotel, and apparently the only option in this attractive small town. Reception was friendly, the room unusually spacious (for Germany), everything was clean and tidy (as usual), and the breakfast buffet was more than ample. Hotel name may be somewhat misleading: it is actually located on the top floor of a small downtown shopping center (the Altstadt Gallerie), i.e., the surroundings aren't immediately attractive; and you’ll need to plan your approach carefully, for there is only one roundabout way to get there through the maze of one-way and pedestrian-only streets - you have to aim for the underground garage (signed for hotel; inexpensive), from which an elevator takes you up to the third floor. Hotel is garni, but there is a very good Greek restaurant on the floor below.
In any case, the town itself was a pleasant surprise: having once been the capital of a (very) small independent principality, its spruced-up downtown has a nice riverside setting surrounded by hills, with a castle up above, a neo-classical palace down below, and a nice large park in which to relax. In short, town + hotel + Greek restaurant made for a very pleasant stay.
