A pretty hotel in a peaceful neighbourhood
Jan_and_Hamon 29/08/2017 09:39Set in a quiet, peaceful area, the hotel appeared to once upon a time be a small schloss or manor house. And while the room was we were in was compact, it was clean, quiet and warm. We were not spending much time in the room so the smaller size was not a problem to us.
About a half hour walk down to the old city, there is a bus service a short walk away which will also get you down to the city.
The breakfast was very nice and served in what I took to be an old porch area that has been covered over. We both were certainly appreciative of the hotel staff who upon finding out we had to leave early to catch a train made sure that breakfast was ready and waiting for us earlier than the normal serving time.
The staff were also helpful in pointing out public transport routes and also suggesting ideas for dinner nearby.
I have to be honest, despite liking this hotel I think I would look around the old city firstly for accommodation next time as that area for us was the draw card of Lindau rather than this peaceful retreat.
nice hotel, but it depends which room you get
Anton19792017on 09/08/2017 19:53+Nice building, good breakfast, polite and helpful staff, beautiful garden, good view on it from the breakfast hall, large windows in the breakfast hall. Free parking
- Not all standard 2-person rooms are equal. On the first day we got room in the basement floor with old design and windows facing the ground. We moved to a better modern room next day, which was more like photos on booking.com
Updated and modern rooms/Great breakfasts
JoeF41on 15/07/2017 23:12We stayed here for 4 days last week and found the rooms to be roomy and a great shower. The breakfasts had a wide selection of breads and rolls, meats, lots of fruit, coffee, juices and cereal. Parking is sufficient but tight. The larger your car the tighter it gets. Very good location. A reasonable walk to town or a bus. Parking in lots in town are not free but if you stay to offer 8pm it's free(no one to collect fares and the gates are open.
Lindau is a pretty town with lots of restaurants.
Some Strong Points and Some Shortcomings
DonPauloon 27/06/2017 20:41The hotel is located in a residential area a fair walk from downtown. If you have a car, there is no problem getting around. If you plan full days, the 20 minute walk or bus ride eats up too much time and energy.
The hotel makes a good impression as you drive up. Parking was adequate for our entire stay. The building and grounds are attractive. Reception was friendly and efficient. There is a lift to the upper stories. The rooms were a bit small, considering the price, but otherwise acceptable. The beds and mattresses were good, the pillows less so. There was barely enough space for our luggage, but everything fit in the closets.
Our room was quiet. The WiFi was weak for most of our stay. Speeds, connectivity and net security were substandard. Housekeeping took care of making the beds and vacuuming, but never noticed that the toiletries were empty. The bath/toilet appeared new, but the workmanship and drainage were not well thought out. Bathrobes were provided, but slippers were not. Towels were replaced when we asked. There were no wash cloths and toiletries were what you might expect at half the room price.
The breakfast room was bright, clean and pleasant. The food selection varied slightly from day to day, but the quality was very good. The lady tending the dining area was helpful, attentive and the most visitor-friendly member of the hotel staff. There was inadequate space on the buffet counters so frequent item replacement was required. Were there more space, a coffee machine would substantially reduce the time needed to bring every hot beverage to every table.
We would stay at the Hotel Schöngarten again and hopefully add another point to our rating. Attention to detail and friendly hospitality are easily instilled in a hotel staff.
nice house – dark room
Georg Son 04/12/2016 12:03I did make a reservation for a single room and stayed in room no. 27. Unfortunately the room only has a little window and for this reason is quite dark. It is also located in the basement, directly under the breakfast room/conservatory and can get a little noisy if furniture is moved. On the plus side the area around the hotel is quite and tranquil. Staff has been friendly and the breakfast buffet was great. As a bonus you can use local buses for free with the hotel‘s registration form. There is a bus stop down the road but public transport in Lindau ends at 9pm. To get to the old town (peninsular) you can get the hourly train (from station Lindau-Aeschbach) or take a 20 minutes walk. Some shops and a supermarket are within walking distance and there is a nice restaurant (Gaststätte Rebstock) down on the main road.
