Charming
Weightman01on 23/03/2017 19:54This is a charming, family-run, hotel on the quiet main street of the small town of Glottertal. At the front, it overlooks the vineyards and at the back a small river. It is very conveniently located to discover the town and the beautiful surrounding area.
Our superior room was much bigger than expected, almost a suite, with a sitting area and two small terraces, one overlooking the river (but no view). The television was of good quality and could be turned to face both the bedroom or the sitting area. The bathroom (shower) was not big but clean and functional with a good selection of toiletries. We ate in the restaurant on two occasions and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The menu provides a good selection of fresh local dishes and the wine list includes those from the vineyard across the road. Menus are also available with English and French translation which helps. The waiter was very welcoming and speaks good English which helped tremendously.
The bedding was of good quality, but we found it strange to find our extra-large double bed with separate quilts and sheets.
Breakfast was impressive with a wide range of fresh fruits, cheeses, hams, cereals, eggs.
As mentioned this is a family-run hotel and the wife (who speaks very good English) was very welcoming, and if I’m not mistaken, manages both the reception and making up the rooms. The husband on the other-hand is the Chef, doubles up at reception and has very limited English. I loved this, since when travelling abroad I love trying to understand different cultures and to have fun communicating.
Negative:
Unfortunately, when we arrived at reception following our meal, we were given our keys and to our dismay found that the room had not been cleaned. This should never had have happened. I would have preferred to wait in the restaurant or in the tiny lounge area.
The Wifi worked but was slow.
Charming family owned hotel
Margaret035on 13/09/2016 17:57Stayed here for 3 nights to visit the southern part of the Black forest. We had a very modern spacious room which had a whirlpool bath in one corner. The shower room and washbasin were open plan i.e in full view of the bedroom which is fine for couples but perhaps not so good for friends sharing. There was a sofa and armchair also.
The restaurant and bar are very cosy and comfortable with nicely spaced tables. The food was excellent and the service was efficient and friendly. The owners and head waiter spoke good English. The village is small but well situated for visiting all the attractions.
best service
Assaf Zon 12/08/2015 08:46very good hotel! large rooms, very clean, nice view to the river. The real highlight is the breakfast!!! very rich, outstanding, just perfect! the stuff make you personal omelet according to your choice.... the only minus is the location, about 15 km from Freiburg. If you have a car with you so it's not a problem
Great stay! very recomended
Yaara Son 02/10/2013 14:43my friend and I ended up having the suit of this great place, just because every hotel in the area didn't have any prooms left.
the price was VERY reasonable, free parking and WIFI availabe.
breakfast was by far the best one we had during our trip.
the room was very big, clean and welcoming.
bare in mind that there is no door to the shower since it's supposed to be romantic.
Nice old fashioned hotel in the Black Forest
Arkenbouton 27/01/2013 20:06We stayed here on our way back from Italy for just one night. The room we got was big, almost a suite. The furniture and styling was all brown and beige, but it suited the hotel and it's location.
The spacious room with a nice and firm king sized bed was spotless and had a nice view on the small river.
The breakfast was, even for German standards, perfect with a wide variety of cheeses, ham, fruit, bread and pastries.
We will stay here again!
