What People are saying

Very pleasant traditional Black Forest Hotel

fdbenkeon 24/09/2016 21:55

We stayed here for two nights en route to Slovenia and Italy. It's a worthwhile staging post but this hotel is just not easy to find even with a good satnav so suggest you phone up beforehand for directions. All the staff we encountered spoke good English.
There is free parking just outside this rural hotel set in wonderful rolling hills. The establishment is traditional with a preponderance of heavy wood and chintz. Goes with the scenery so not a problem for us. Reception very friendly and English spoken. Hotel has two upper floors but no lift. Rooms generous sized with comfortable beds and good if dates bathrooms. We are at their restaurant on the first night. Limited menu but good and service very good. Breakfast was €9 each extra per day.
One great benefit is a free transport and museum card for the area. We took a train into Freiburg for the day with ours. Very worthwhile. Recommended.

Good Value Traditional Black Forest Hotel

We stayed in the hotel for a week. It is a family hotel, located in an old building that was built in 1847.

The staff if very friendly and gets out of his way to help, if by suggesting trips and places to visit, or to change breakfast opening time to suit your needs.

The rooms are old, but have a modern bath. The breakfast is OK and dinner is very good, if you choose to spend it in their restaurant. The location is about 20 minutes from Freiburg, which is very convenient.

The price is very reasonable for what you get.

On the downside there are a few minor issues. Since the building is old, there are no elevators, which might be tricky in case of a room on the third floor with heavy luggage. Also, the lack of air-condition on hot summer days might be problematic a bit. I would also suggest to add equipment to make some coffee or tea in the room.

But nevertheless, I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again in the future.

Very good Black Forrest hotel.

Very nice hotel at the lovely place near small river. Big and comfortable room with balcony and full equipped bathroom. Plenty of free parking. Free wifi. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was served in very nice Bavarian room with great choice of rolls, cheeses, ham and eggs with very good coffee.
The location is great , very closed to Freiburg, Colmar and other Black Forrest attractions. Definitely would return there and recommend to everybody.

Nice hotel in the Black Forset area

We liked the hotel. It wasn't fancy (about what we expected from a 3-star hotel). The staff were very friendly, and breakfast was good. The view was lovely and we enjoyed having a balcony even though it wasn't warm out. We used this as a base to explore other parts of the Black Forest by car, and we liked that it wasn't in a big town - no noise, no parking issues. The only downside was the strong smell of smoke in the stairway on several occasions. It didn't get in our room, though.

Charming, Picture-Postcard

Stayed two nights recently and loved every minute. Everyone we had contact with was helpful and friendly. Had a chance to chat with owner, Alexandra, about the history of the hotel and her family. In the morning, our host took us to a table already set aside for us by the fireplace. Impeccable service all around.

Decor fantastic; felt like I'd been transported to a different century. Room and bed very comfortable, Plenty of seating - couch and chair. Bathroom up to date, convenient, basic necessities (hair dryer, mirror, liquid soap/shampoo). Plenty of electrical outlets. Breakfast great - plenty of choices (cereals, eggs, Black Forest ham, various cold meats and cheeses, yogurt, fresh fruit, and...delicious breads! Big plus - onsite parking along a mountain stream.

However, the biggest surprise was dinner. It was superb! "Just" chicken but the sauce was incredible and even the vegetables were out of this world. A true chef works here!

Only one disappointment, Booking.com listed our room as having a balcony; it didn't. No big deal.
