Location, location, location
Maureen Mon 08/04/2017 21:59I grew up just north of San Clemente so you think I wouldn't be giddy about the view from our deck at The Seahorse. Wrong! Quintessential old-school beach scene. There's nothing like falling asleep to crashing waves. And passing trains. And traffic. But those little noise issues were inconsequential to the overall experience. Warm and welcoming staff. Coupon for a free coffee at a cute shop two doors down. Clean and very comfy bed. If you want the Ritz, go north 5 miles (literally). Loved it!
Something is wrong here
Christine Son 06/04/2017 07:44I am not sure what goes on at this hotel, but something isn't right, and it starts with the people who sit at the front desk. The place is dirty, run down.. and when you complain, you might get moved to another room, and then have someone trying to get into your room, with a key..in the middle of the night...but guess what.. you have no land line and your cell phone doesn't work. The guy that owns the place doesn't care. Single girl traveling with her son..it was very frightening.. after letting them know.. no phone call, nothing. NEVER.AGAIN.
Gem by the Sea
Chowebaby71on 16/03/2017 22:28We stayed for 3 nights/4days at this quaint, beach apartment-style room by the sea. It set the perfect stage for our San Clemente stay. The ocean front view was amazing! The price was affordable (around $200/night). We were surprised by the full kitchen. There were 3 in our party and the room had 2 queen sized beds and a comfy couch. The patio-deck was perfect to wind down in the evenings and we bought take-in one night and enjoyed dinner while watching the sunset. The Resort provided great beach chairs, towels and beach umbrellas. The weather was perfect, although there was some pesky marine layer that hung around a little too long during our stay. We va-cayed Sun-Wed and the only reason I wouldn't rate 5 stars is due to some noisy construction/maintenance right across the street during the weekday mornings. The location is close to restaurants and the main street (Del Mar). The train runs in front of the hotel but it didn't bother us at all. This is a little gem by the sea and I think it would be a great setting for a family get-away or a romantic stay! I'll be back to Sea Horse!
Great apartment in a fabulous location
LandDT2010on 06/03/2017 16:41We stayed in apartment 3a which provided fabulous nearly 180 degree views through large windows across the beach and ocean literally only a few yards away. We had a very well equipped kitchen and a separate bedroom at the back which proved to be extremely quiet and comfortable each night. The living area was large and there was plenty of space for the large dining table and 4 chairs etc. in terms of location it could not be beaten within walking distance of the pier, beach, restaurants, a small store and downtown only 10-15 minutes away.
There was also a small balcony with two chairs and a small table which was ideal when sitting outside looking across the ocean and generally unseen unseen by people walking on the sidewalk below.
The apartment, though, is "of the 70s" and could do with some updating in particular the bathroom and shower where anyone over 5 feet tall would struggle to stand under the shower head!- I am 6 feet 2 inches!! However, the whole place was very clean and we were extremely comfortable during our stay there.
The young lady at reception was very welcoming, pleasant and helpful and was very happy for us to leave our car there on our checking out day while we went out for breakfast.
We felt that the price we paid for the accommodation (around $200 per night) was very reasonable given the location and generous space that apartment 3a offered. We would definitely stay there again although once again we would ask for an apartment above the first floor in order to avoid the "goldfish bowl feeling" when people walk past and peer through the windows or get within a few feet while sitting on the outside deck.
Wonderful Hotel
ElleLaJollaon 28/02/2017 06:55At the very last minute we needed a place to stay in San Clemente, and rather than getting a motel by the freeway, we decided to call the Sea Horse Resort. They had a vacancy in one of their Villa del Mar units which was a few buildings north of the Sea Horse Resort. The unit turned out to be a good-sized apartment in an old building with a view of the pier and the water. The bedroom had two queen-size beds, a full kitchen, and a nice living/dining room with a balcony facing the street. It would probably be good for a family of 4 or 5.
Pros:
•comfortable bed, firm pillows, good linens
•good water pressure in the shower
•comfortable furniture
•TV
•free WIFI
•parking space near unit
•great view of ocean and pier
•unit is above a coffee shop, a small cafe and small convenience store
•the woman at the reception desk was very friendly and helpful and also very patient when we could not find our unit
Cons:
•trains come by frequently right across the street along the beach. They don't blow their horn, but the nearby railroad crossing has a recorded horn sound and bells to warn people of the approaching train. The sounds didn't bother us because they were not as loud as the real train horns would be.
•the front office/reception closes at 8 pm
•check-out is at 11 am
We really enjoyed our--albeit short--stay so much that we are considering returning for three or four days next year around the same time (off season).
