WELL FOR CLOSE UP OVERVIEWS OF A PRIME SURFING SPOT AT A REASONABLE PRICE IT’S THE BEST I’VE SEEN…..
….in over 20 visits to BALI since 1975. However if panoramic outlooks are your thing, some of those mega-expensive cliff-side resorts in south mainland BALI give higher, wider vistas.
SECRET POINT HUTS is located at the south-west end of NUSA CENINGAN which is the smaller island jammed between compact NUSA LEMBONGAN and the big, high NUSA PENIDA, all part of BALLI.
Its low headland position gives a terrific outlook over the CENINGAN POINT (aka SECRET POINT/MAHANA POINT) surf break – you are only 150m from the take-off zone. You also get to gaze 80m to the next small headland where SECRET POINT HUT owned Mahana Point Warung and Cliff Jump is located (TRIPADVISOR has several reviews of this on its special BLUE LAGOON CLIFF JUMP page - although BLCJ is a separate and closed cliff jump nearby) – and back across the channel to adjacent NUSA LEMBONGAN. When swell is big and the tide down, waves often break right across the 1600m entrance of the channel. A spectacular sight, but tending to make surfing uncertain and a tad dangerous.
This is a lower midrange resort with 3 grades of accommodation – top down: double storey LUMBUNG (traditional Balinese rice barn) style, SUPERIOR SEA VIEW and ONE BEDROOM BUNGALOW. Seems to me the main difference between SUPERIOR SEA VIEW and ONE BEDROOM is the former being a little bigger and having uninterrupted views of both the nice pool area and the seaside action. I checked out a LUMBUNG – very nice and worth the extra if you are not a cheapskate like me. A CAVEAT: front row lumbungs have the best direct sea views: back row lumbungs may have partially blocked views.
My SUPERIOR SEA VIEW room was spacious, clean, with whisper quiet aircon and good lights. No TV or frig. The comfy queen bed had a mozzie net which wasn’t needed – the place was well sealed against the little devils. The good sized bathroom had fine hot water and one of those Japanese bidet toilet seats. Water was a bit brackish – the rapid infiltration of rainwater into this limestone island means most water is from bores, and the water table in coastal areas is close to sea level. However a shower was still refreshing. My balcony had nice oblique views of the sea and pool. This is a quiet area – the main noise was from the sea which is always nice – however I could hear people talking in the adjoining room at times. I got the impression my room was an upgraded flashpacker – whoever did the interior paint/tile/wood selection deserves a medal: this was the most attractive interior of the 9 places I stayed in this BALI trip – some considerably upmarket.
THE RESTAURANT was open sided and had the great views mentioned above. Food/drinks were priced only a little above budget restaurant levels, the menu had a good selection, service was pretty good, and dishes seemed okay to me (although I’m no gourmet). I thought the inclusive breakfast was great.
TIP: people wanting dining variety will find several resort restaurants and roadside warungs nearby.
THE INFINITY POOL is sweet – about 12mx5, it has that popular salty water (not sea water) which in this case was slightly tough on the eyes. The seaside rim is a great place to check out the nearby surf action, cliff-jumpers and ocean panorama. There seemed sufficient sun-lounges and a fair bit of shade.
Between pool and restaurant is a nice ocean-view seating area – I noticed day-trippers exploring CENINGAN from LEMBONGAN on motos sitting here after a swim and ordering food and drink. However MAHANA POINT WARUNG attracted a far bigger crowd of these people. It has a similar menu and prices to S P HUTS.
TIP: SECRET POINT HUT guests can charge MAHANA stuff to their room accounts and do the cliff-jumps free - naturally I had to give the jumps a go.
Steps near the pool lead down to a SMALL BEACH which disappears at full tide. A second set of steps to the left leads to another patch of sand.
Take care swimming off these beaches – I noticed a good RIP CURRENT running along the rocks and around Mahana Headland. I went with the flow – once around the headland it had done its job and disappeared (rips take wave swash back “out the back” – surfers use them often as an easy way to the take-off zone).
TIP: if caught in a rip, SWIM SIDEWAYS (rips are narrow): if you are EXHAUSTED, GO WITH THE FLOW (even a big rip will not go far) and tread water (a minimal effort activity) until you recover strength.
At low tide a lot of rock is exposed off the sand – great for people who like fossiking in rock pools.
STAFF is criticised in some reviews as unfriendly and dour. Head guy BIG PUTU was jovial and efficient. 2 I/C WAYAN was a bit of a hard case but a good worker. Other staff friendly and effective. I found no problems with English.
RESORT TRANSFERS are good. Transport is sent down to the Yellow
Bridge between LEMBONGAN and CENINGAN (too narrow for non-motos) to pick you up.
TIP: come to LEMBONGAN from mainland Bali on one of the many commercial fast boats which include free transport from your south BALI resort or airport to SANUR "pier" and free transfers on LEMBONGAN to the Yellow Bridge (the same deals work going out). If you use ANY slowboat or public speedboats free transport on the mainland and LEMBONGAN is not includes – you will have to negotiate with the venal transport mafia and may end up spending as much but using much more time and nervous energy.
I was already staying on the other side of LEMBONGAN. WAYAN gave me a lift across to CPHs on the back of a moto gratis. On exit he took me down near the yellow bridge to a fast boat going across to NUSA PENIDA which BIG PUTU had organised for about half the online-suggested price.
Whether a guest or day-tripper, SECRET POINT HUTS is a great place to spend time. Enjoy your visit gang.
Wonderful resort at the most amazing location. We had 2 nights here and a absolutely loved it would definitely recommend to everyone. I also left my iPad here and didn't realise until I got back to Kuta and the staff at the Resort couldn't have been more helpful, they took it to Nusa Lembongan and got it on a ferry for me to pick up. I was so grateful.
Our Stay at Secret Point Huts was fabulous. The scenic location is second to none. We booked the hut overlooking the cliff point and ocean and had little between us and that beautiful view other than the infinity pool. The hut was kept serviced and clean daily and the air conditioner worked a treat. We had the outdoor, down the stairs bathroom which was huge and lovely but be a little wary of the steps down as they are quite steep, especially in the middle of the night. Apart from that couldn't fault the room. Plenty of cupboard space and lovely little outdoor setting on our balcony.
The dining facilities are lovely either restaurant style or lovely settings on the lawn area.
Only a 2 minute walk to Blue Lagoon and the cliff jump locations which is good to see. Also great surfing just down from the private beach or good to just watch the surfers from the hotel.
Fantastic location and a great place to just sit around the pool, read a good book and totally relax. I didn't leave the grounds for four days. It was so nice I didn't want to,
Amazing secluded place to unwind and relax. Tucked away in the beautiful island of Nusa Ceningan, Secret Point Huts was our home for 5 incredible days. The huts are very special and unique, clean and affordable. Incredible infinity pool overlooking the sea and the coolest surfers spot! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was great, some of the best we've had on the island. Get a scooter to explore the island - super fun but do be careful as the roads are not ideal for beginners ;) If you are coming to Nusa Ceningan this is the place to stay at! We will definitely be back, thanks for the great stay!
We booked this place for one night as a bit of an island hop and stayed 2 days. The views are stunning the hut was beautiful it made you feel like you really where on an exotic island. Hearing the sea crashing against the rocks and watching the skilled surfers negotiating the incredible waves makes you really realise your in a surfers paradise. Far to energetic for me. Instead I'll lay here next to the nicest swimming pool i have ever seen with a stunning infinity edge overlooking the sea. The staff here are friendly and kind also they organised a snorkel trip for us. Snorkeling 3 amazing sites. This definitely has been a great find and for such a cheap price. Best hotel on Bali i have been to so far .
