Stunning view though management needs an overhaul
Gayathri Jon 12/05/2017 21:21We stayed at Seehotel Riviera recently. The room we stayed in, on the second floor, had a stunning view of the lake. The hotel is conveniently located, with access to ferry and bus at stone's throw distance. The hotel is clean and very well maintained. A walk in the neighborhood is all ypu need to get the charm of Switzerland.
That said, I'm compelled to add that the management needs a complete makeover. They are still stuck in some bygone era. The manager actually treats you like school kids. Our group was warned at the time of check in of all the fines we might attract (that's for some warm welcome). A fine if water spills outside the bath tub, a fine if they think carpets have been messed with, a fine if the doors are shut a little hastily, and so on. I once had to have my packed dinner at my room, and the manager followed me upto the room to warn me that he would inapect the room the nextday6and should he find any food particles, he would promptly levy a fine. I was annoyed at this presumptuous behaviour and kind of told him that, that is not the way guests are treated. It is not to say guests go around messing hotel property, but repeated instructions on maintenance takes the joy away from the stay.
Overall, great location, but unhelpful staff. Oh, btw, wifi is paid.
In 30 years of travel, never saw that
Marc Don 23/08/2015 13:10I called that hotel by phone to reserve a room for the same day. We agreed on the price. Then i mentionned that we bring 2 dogs. The person taking the reservation is telling me that if the dogs are not very big, it is no problem. The person was very friendly on the phone. A few hours later we arrive in the hotel and i check-in. The same person tells me that the dogs will cost. As the cost was about 15% of the room rate (which rate was also not cheap), i said that it would have been fair to tell me that over the phone. The answer was that in Switzerland all dogs must pay in hotel and asked me much less pleasantly then before what we do now? I told the person i will leave a comment on Trip Advisor and he replied that his is a threat and wont give me the room. I had to exit the hotel with my wife and drive back home. I dont want to rate 1 this hotel as i could not judge inside obviously but for sure the management of this hotel can not deal with customer criticism. In 30 years around the world i never was turned down in a hotel.
Romantic Getaway with great Lake and swiss Alps View
IndienBrazilon 05/06/2015 10:37One can reach Seehotel from Lucern via ferry ( which is highly recommended for its immense beauty and breathtaking nature) or Train/ Taxi. Train is cheapest, Taxi most expensive - ferry in between. The ferry stop right outside See hotel . A very small family run hotel with probably 20 odd rooms in 2 floors. Basic ( 3 star facilities) in the room, bathroom could improve but all that you could forget once you come to your balcony. Food option not much in the hotel although right across you will find a very good restaurant for Fish and Steaks. Walking distance you can get local cheese and chocolate , fresh bread, hams etc. Breakfast in the hotel is quite basic European ( eggs, jams, hams, bread, spreads, cheese etc. ) but over all very warm people and we highly recommend this place
Good value and wonderful lake view
Claude Son 23/09/2013 18:38The Seehotel riviera is very located and the view is terrific. The rooms are clean with balcony or terrace and you can easily park your car. This hotel has a seventies style which make it quite "cool". Good breakfast and nice staff which make Seehotel Riviera a very convenient place for a one or two nights stop in central Switzerland (close to Luzern).
Perfect hotel for location
Sumana2012on 19/08/2013 23:15Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. The location is fantastic for the following reasons
1. Amazing view of the lakes and mountains from the balcony
2. Ten min bus journey from Brunnen station( with the bus stopping on the door step of the hotel)
3, located opposite the pier with boats taking you to Lucerne and more ... We went to Stanserhorn
4. Located opposite a tourist office
Continental breakfast was served with a pretty good selection of breads, jams, fruit and the lady serving breakfast accommodated my request to fill up the milk for my 1 year old before the breakfast was officially opened.
For the short stay this hotel was ok and although the rooms seemed pretty basic it was clean and as mentioned the views and location and price make this hotel a smart choice. Oh not that important for everyone, but certainly for me, a kettle in the room would have been good but there was a coffee machine instead.
The only improvement I would suggest from my experience was that there was a lack of a reception so on the day we arrived there was no one to really tell us where to go, what to do... Perhaps they were busy ... When we did finally see someone on reception on our second day he was a pleasant gentleman and helpful.
Just a pointer, if you stay at a hotel in Brunnen, the hotel should be able to provide you with a "guest pass" which gives you discounts for certain tours. For some reason Seehotel Riviera said that they could not issue this pass, but that was not such as issue since the Tourist Office opposite were able to issue this instead.
