Nice but.........
KiwiRobbieon 26/04/2017 19:15This is a very nice hotel in a very quiet corner of Germany, it's in the middle of nowhere. I stayed here because it's the only hotel near Teterow. The rooms are very cosy, quite romantic, my wife would have loved it, the bathrooms are nice and modern, the shower is good. The lady on reception when we checked in was lovely and very helpful.
The restaurant is very good, the menu is limited but has enough item for all but the most fussy, although the service is painfully slow, and if you like asparagus this is the place for you, almost every dish had asparagus.
This would be an excellent location for a wedding, plenty of rooms, a restaurant and nice outdoor locations for photos. As I said earlier is quite romantic.
Nice setting, average everything else
Eva Hon 06/03/2017 15:47The hotel building is beautiful and the room we had was huge and fitted with a four-poster bed. The room was clean. The bathroom was modern and very comfortable.
Given we were off season (in November), it all felt a bit cool and dark. To get to the sauna you have to walk across the car park to get to another building.
There was no staff in the sauna area and we couldn't find glasses or cups to have a tea or some water in between the sauna sessions.
The breakfast in the hotel was ok, but limited choice on offer. I assume it was because there were not so many guests. The breakfast buffet looked a bit unfinished, with tags still lying around unused.
The staff prepare scrambled egg upon request, but beware, it is not prepared with real fresh eggs, but with egg from a tetra pack.
We did not try the restaurant as it made a bit of a cold and stiff impression.
There is no bar during the day at that time of the year as restaurant staff also staffs the bar, hence they open only at 9 pm.
Beautiful castle!
merilohion 21/08/2016 17:43We arranged my friend's wedding at Seeschloss Schorssow in Aug 2016. Good service, beautiful building and surroundings, delicious food, spacious rooms, and friendly staff. They also have a very diligent Event Manager, so if you need help in organizing a special occasion, she's very helpful.
castle and relaxation experience
jesper lon 12/01/2015 12:29We spend a extended weekend at the Schloss Schorssow, which is a beautifully renovated castle in a very small village in the former DDR.
We had booked the all inclusive package which included breakfast and a dinner in the very beautiful restaurant at Schloss Schorssow, the food and wine was delicious, and it was top notch experience in high standard.
The saunas were also worth a visit, but unfortunately the pool were closed, due to heating problems.
We went a second time 6 months later, but unfortunately that weekend the town where plagued by problems with the central power & heat supply from.
I have not included that visit in my rating, but noted that the former DDR doesn't have a reliable infrastructure.
Lovely setting and restored schloss
surya77on 30/10/2014 17:48This beautiful renovated schloss is set in a beautiful area of forests, lakes and green sloping hills. Infront of the hotel there is a lovely lake and as we were there now, the autumn colours were stunning. Unfortunately, the weather was not the best!
The Schloss itself is a lovely building and is well maintained. But, my first impression when we walked in started this roller coaster of emotions. I love beauty and I love class and I love castles. Unfortunately, though, the upkeep of such beautiful buildings and hotels is often too costly for the owners who then do not decorate them as tastefully as one would expect from a schloss and that is when I get frustrated, although I do understand the problems they are facing. This particular schloss was used for years by the DDR for refugee families. After unification, it must have come to the present owners in a dismal state and it must have cost them alot to bring it to where it is now. But, I just wished on that first day, that the furniture chosen was more suitable. how can I say it? An authentic little hotel in a village is sometimes better for me than a mediocre castle!!
Luckily, we got a room on the top floor with a lower ceiling. I found it more cosy. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. Apart from the interior decorating which I did not like, all was ok and clean.
In the evening, one could only have a 3 course meal priced at 30E p.p. As we don't eat that much in the evenings, we asked if we could have ala carte. Not possible. So, we ended up going out for dinner. This was the case on both nights we were there. But, had we stayed another night, we noticed that there was ala carte for dinner. I spoke to the reception about how important this is for guests who do not eat a 3 course meal at night.
And, now I am finished with all the negative!! After my initial reaction to the decor and after a good breakfast with views of the lake, the 2nd day was better. I gradually started to 'feel' and
'like' the place. The beauty of the building, the tranquillity, the autumn colours...I became less judgemental and even decided that yes, if we are ever in this area, we will return.
The accommodation price, including breakfast, in a setting such as this, is good value for money. A schloss as I would want it to be, would also be more expensive. For the price one pays, Schloss Schorssow is worth a stay.
