Traditional hotel in sea side...
linsonyon 13/04/2017 14:57I love this hotel, a traditional hotel with roomy guest rooms. They have no heated tatamis, but worry not as you'll can hug those hot stone while sleeping.
You should order breakfast or dinner which was cooked in Miyazu style and tastes great! It is a little bit on the sweet side rather than savoury like most Jjapanese cuisine. However you should tell them in advance that you wanted to have breakfast or dinner otherwise they won't be able to prepare anything for you.
Don't worry tough if you've forgotten to reserve the food. This hotel is located in strategic location, as it is close many local restaurants just across the road, and a shopping mall 5 minutes away by foot, and train station is just 10 minutes away.
In addition to this hotel's lush garden, this hotel is located adjacent from public park and seaside.
Oh yes, you are not allowed to wet the wall as its traditionally made. Also for some rooms, the toilet was located outside.
Hidden Gem!
prajk_travelbugon 05/04/2017 09:59We absolutely stumbled upon this place...only because I was an ignoramus and thought Kyoto Prefecture meant Kyoto city. But I am so glad that we did! Miyazu 2 hours from Kyoto and not easy to get to but it is worth a visit to Amanohashidate. About Seikiro, here are some pros and cons:
Pros:
- It has the most wonderful hot springs that are incredibly relaxing
- The traditional Japanese-style living was brought to life for us and we loved our spacious and comfortable room with beds on the floor (each with a hot brick-like thing)
- The staff were extremely warm and friendly. Although they barely knew English (only a few words), they took pains to explain what we could do around Amanohashidate and with a little bit of gesturing and flexibility on both sides, I knew exactly what options I had :)
- This was also the first time we had traditional Japanese breakfast, it was amazing
- The ryokan is well taken care of and clearly a part of local history, so we felt like we experienced a sliver of it too
- Close to the bus stop, 9 mins walk from railway station
Cons:
- The shared bathroom was a new and uncomfortable experience for us. Thankfully we were the only ones that night
- The town is so silent that it is eerie and not many eating options near by, so stock up before you get to Miyazu
- Internet in our room was spotty. Needed to get to the main reception area for better connectivity
Overall, I wouldn't have missed this experience of rural Japan for the world!
An Alternative to Hotels in Amanohashidate
limeh0gon 31/12/2016 07:03Cant find any reasonably priced good hotels in Amanohashidate. Location of this hotel is only 10 minutes bus ride from Amanohashidate and also offers an opportunity to tour
city of Miyazu before going to the next destination. Hotel is 2 minutes walk from the bus stop coming from Amanohashidate. Booked rooms with private bath. The rooms upstairs are fine (booked 3 rooms for total 7 persons). The slightly larger room on the ground floor had a "ancient" wooden drum as bathtub. The size of the drum is not a problem but the appearance of the drum is somewhat suspicious. Saw something like green mold of the surface of the wood. Can go to the showers in the onsen/public bath as an alternative. restaurant recommended by the hotel is very good (they actually took us to the restaurant to make sure that we wont get lost although the restaurant is merely 3 minutes walk away). Had breakfast in the hotel which is adequate. There is a shopping mall nearby. There is a observation deck on the fifth floor which offers great view. Few restaurants also on the fifth floor. A fairly large supermarket is on the ground floor. Miyazu is a quiet place. rarely saw people walking on the street. A few sighting seeing places all of which are within walking distance.
Relaxing
Darrell Won 06/08/2016 06:50Stayed here with my wife and I for three nights. Found the room to be very large for Japan and contained all that was needed. It was clean and had a great view over the ocean. Close to a large department store that was very handy. Also not too far from the train station which had some good restaurants nearby. The staff were very happy to help with any queries and smiled alot. Would recommend to those who are looking to stay in traditional accommodation while in Japan.
Nice old Ryakon convinient for Amanohashidate!
Jan-OlofOon 01/08/2016 13:48I got a very nice clean Japanese room with wonderful view of the sleeping Dragon (Amanohashidate)! This is a Japanese style room you are sleeping on a tatami mat. Room has TV and WIFI! The room had toilette but shower was a communal bathing area on the first floor. I did not eat at this ryakon so I am not going to make any comments about the food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The manager spoke fluent English and was of great help when planning your traveling. The location is perfect for a visit to Amanohashidate. Personally I used a car, parking was free of charge. If you are traveling by train the ryakon has bicycles for rent you can reach Amanohasidate within fifteen minutes by bike! On the 24 of July the manager strongly recommended a visit in the evening at Amanohashidate! Indeed the manager was right it was a fantastic show.
