We had just one night in the Semiramis Palmyra and thought it was pretty good although there are a couple of caveats. The restaurant we ate in which was reached by crossing a cavernous and unused ballroom had rather dated looking pink walls and the swimming pool is still evidently under construction. In our room there was some electrical cabling with wires taped together running across the bed under the headboard which looked less than convincing. Having said all that though I have marked the hotel as very good because the room was clean, comfortable and a very good size, service was friendly and the buffet breakfast and dinners were excellent. It's a reasonable choice I think for a night not too far from the fabulous ruins.
The hotel is about 6 years old, however some parts are recently built. As others have noted hotel options in Palmyra are limited. In general the hotel looks nice, and it is obvious a lot of money has been spent on it. The common areas are spacious with lots of seating and there's a large bar on the second floor. We stayed for one night and had a suite. The suite was spacious, with a comfortable king size bed, the AC worked, the TV offered access to lots of channels (but we needed staff to show us how to operate it). Our travel companion had a regular size room, which was ok in general (though somewhat dusty - but then it is the desert).
The problem was the bathrooms. The floors where very dirty, and the outside of the toilet bowls had not been wiped for a long time. We arrived after 10:00 pm and did not figure this out until about midnight. In the morning I informed the front desk about the cleanliness issue and someone who appeared to be a manager came to look at the bathroom as we were leaving. He was embarrassed and hopefully he will do something about it. My rating would be higher if the bathrooms were appropriately cleaned.
Hotel when I stayed was not yet finished. Hotel pool was empty as they had royal guests from Qatar staying who don't follow pool rules, easier to have it empty, but not for the other paying guests. This is mean't to be 5 star however at breakfast we were made to fell very unimportant, all service was directed at the comfort of Qataris, we were left to fend for ourselves, not even a cup of coffee was brought or offered to be brought to our table. We were lucky when we arrived our rooms were ready however a bus load of French tourists arrived at 4pm with none of their rooms ready, they were still waiting at 7pm. Restaurant in hotel but not open for dinner either night we were there.
We only spent one night at this hotel during our round trip to Syria. It was very enjoyable nand well appointed Semiramis Hotel. The rooms were clean and well decorated. Staff was very helpfull and speaking English very weel. Breakfast was so delicious with lots of kinds. Also location is very nice and we had a taxi from hotel to Palmyra Ancient City for sun-rise, it was perfect !
We spent two very enjoyable nights at this well appointed hotel.
The rooms were clean and the food very good.
All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful - in particular, Ali, the General Manager, who seemed to be always on hand to sort out any little problems and encouraging his staff to achieve the highest standards.
We felt very much at home at this hotel
