We'll be back in the fall!
Tiffany Lon 27/04/2017 16:09What a wonderful place is Shanti Som!
We've just returned from a 7 night Yoga retreat and it was everything we hoped it would be and more! We're already planning our return in the fall.
Resort and Room: The resort is in a beautiful location in the hills above Marbella, far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the Costa del Sol to be relaxing, but not so far it is a hike to reach the resort. The grounds, while compact, are restful and relaxing, and well landscaped. The property itself is well decorated and peaceful, with an emphasis on ensuring guests feel they have plenty of places to relax. Our room - the Passion Suite - was wonderful. Very comfortable, airy and quiet with only the sound of the water features most of the day and evening - indeed the entire resort is quiet, which we loved! - and had a roomy balcony with a lovely view of the hills (save for the view towards the outdoor yoga pavillion and the el tower). We ended every evening out on the balcony watching Venus and the stars and listening to the sounds of gentle waterfalls. Heavenly. Note that Wi-Fi is really only available at strength in the lobby and restaurant (we got a teeny bit in our room).
Dining: The dining was a surprise - it was really good! We had expected a bit of spartan fare with the full board, but we were very very plesantly surprised! Breakfast was buffet style with many good options, lunch and dinner very limited - 2 starter, 2 main meals to choose from and a single dessert, with 2 drinks per meal (beer and wine included, not sure about booze). Each day was different, all dietary restrictions catered to - and very sweetly, too; staff could not have been more happy to find alternative and options - and everything really did taste really good (that's not hunger talking either; portions are generous). We actually never ever felt deprived...Hubby recommends the ginger and lemon infusion, and I recommend the exotic lemonaide (which is not part of the drinks menu - sorry).
Spa/Pool/Fitness Room: We had a number of spa treatment (massages, facials, wraps, some LPG) and all were very good. The spa staff is really friendly, accomodating, and skilled. Extra special thanks to Paloma - she's fabulous! The pool was a pleasant place to relax, and the fitness room was decently equipped with a very pleasant view of the hills... Pilates instruction can be booked ahead.
Yoga: The yoga itself was for us a revelation. Our first time doing yoga, and we're hooked. We were treated with kindness and affection from day one by our instructor, Natalie (she's absolutely positively darling!) and we both felt that she has helped us onto a new, more positive and healthy path. We're both very thankful that it was she we first worked with for the first 5 days as complete novices...and I'll allow you to read into this statement what you will.
Staff: While Paloma and Natalee were standouts for us, everyone at the resort is really really wonderful, and I am not a person who overlooks much. Caring, invariably plesant, always a ready smile and helpful as helpful could possibly be. Need a hire car? They'll have one delivered. Mention you would like your clothes pressed? Housekeeping will take care of it pronto (not that you need to 'dress'; it's yoga casual by day, and casual resort by night). Want dining recommendations further afield? They've got em. They are truly lovely.
I truly recommend a visit. You may come away, as we did, with a whole new perspective. And I will add that we found it to be good value.
Great place
Assia Ton 29/03/2017 20:14Went there for four nights on a wellness retreat. The rooms are very nice, personnel is attentive, the spa has very good treatments, the area is nice and green. I did yoga every morning (incl in my pack). I missed a slower yoga, like yin or hatha restorative. The food was very good but not wow. I did a hike with a small group, very nice. Would be good to include more hikes as optional program - the area is beautiful
Definitely recommend the place.
Beautiful experience
Alan Son 17/02/2017 17:45My wife and I visited the retreat for a body exfoliant and massage. It was excellent and the staff so welcoming and helpful. We then had lunch which was again quite exquisite.
I would not hesitate to recommend a visit.
Wellness Retreat in a Beautiful Setting!
Susan Gon 07/02/2017 13:42I did quite a lot of research to locate a wellness retreat in a beautiful surrounding, with warm-ish weather within a three hour flight from London and I found it. Everything was great without being pretentious, and the price was great value for a six day retreat (includes room & board, a training session each day, yoga and nutritionist, but not treatments).
The staff were very supportive and friendly and since there were only 14 rooms, people got to know you quickly. I did the weight loss program - not the detox - and the food was delicious and very healthy so I did not feel deprived. The location in the mountains was gorgeous and it was 15 minutes north of Marbella. Also, I loved the region - I went to Ronda and Grenada. And the weather was sunny and 65 degrees - sheer perfection and I felt great.
A special thanks to Javier, my personal trainer, for his excellent training and wonderful enthusiasm.
I can highly recommend it and am already planning to come back with friends!
