Weird place...

this is an old hotel. and it lets you know that.

I was there for work, and had to take the T from Boston and then walk from Harvard Square. It was a long day, so maybe I was cranky, but I was sub-impressed. The room smelled like old-hotel. The elevator was tiny, almost couldn't get into it. Maybe that's part of the charm, but I would prefer to stay elsewhere.

Convenient Harvard Square hotel!

I stayed here for a night while working in Cambridge.

This has always been one of the nicer Sheraton properties. It is a convenient Harvard Square location, within easy walking distance to everything in and around the square. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed. Showers are great. Beds are extremely comfortable.

I prefer the Commander over the Charles Hotel.

Classic Elegance

The Commander is very conveniently located within sight of Harvard and Lesley Universities. The quiet street is minutes from the hustle and bustle of Harvard Square. Rooms and common areas are quite tastefully appointed. Staff is highly accomodating.

Disappointing

Stayed 1 night. Checked in on a rainy Wednesday night - staff at check-in apologized for inconvenience, that we had to drag our luggage over the wet, muddy puddles to get to the hotel entrance. What hotel should have done instead was send someone to clear the water that was just outside its front door! Room was fine - clean, quiet and comfortable. Restaurant was disappointing. At 2:20pm on a Thursday afternoon, the restaurant was nearly empty except for 2 parties who were finishing their meals. We wanted to sit where there was more natural light. The hostess refused to seat us near the window, claiming all the unoccupied tables at the window had reservations for lunch when lunch hour was clearly over! We felt discriminated because we were an Asian couple. After we were seated and served, we asked the waitress if we could move to the window and she promptly obliged to our request. The food was alright. We finished our lunch around 3:30pm and during the entire time nobody showed up for those 'reserved tables'. So what's this nonsense about being fully booked?

Great choice

This hotel was in a great location for visiting Harvard. Situated in Cambridge, Boston you could walk to Harvard Square but was a bit of a distance from Boston attractions.
Our room was for three adults. There was plenty of space and we had a lovely view over Cambridge Common. The air conditioning was effective if a little noisy. We stayed in a club room which meant we could use the club lounge. You could have breakfast there and " hors d'oeuvres" at 5pm. Both were lovely especially breakfast which had a spread from cold meat to fresh fruit chunks. The staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful with top marks going to Damari in the Club Lounge who was very kind and helpful, always doing her duty with a smile.
