What People are saying
Thirsty? I hope not !!
William Aon 03/06/2017 22:41This hotel is average.... But sometimes it's not the room you're in, it's the amenities the hotel has to offer. When checking into the hotel at 10:50 pm after a long day I asked what time the bar closed. It closes at midnight....so I figured I'd come down for a while to visit with a friend over a beer. We arrived in the lobby bar a few minutes after 11 knowing that it closed at 12. From the moment we arrived we felt this rush from the bar staff and never really felt that we were welcome. They were cleaning up and getting ready to close and never gave us a second look or offered us another drink. I had to get their attention and reorder.....We sat AT the bar so they were right in front of us. After serving us our second beer he closed out our tab and gave us our bill. This was at 11:25.....wait ! It's not closing time and you're open for 30 more minutes !! May I please enjoy my evening without being rushed out of here? Meanwhile the clanking and closing of doors, liquor cabinets and locking up alcohol is quite distracting. There were 2 bar staff and neither of them very friendly at all. At 11:45 I asked one if we were keeping him there and he said "Well...we ARE closing"...... so I paid my tab. The bill was $22.40 so I added $4 for the tip.....would have been more but we were more of a bother to them then a welcome customer. $26.40. When I looked at my debit card statement the next morning it showed a breakdown of $20.40 + $6. Same $26.40 but they decreased the price of the drinks and added more to the tip !!! WOW.......don't overvalue your service !!! Please don't spend your money in this hotel, go somewhere where you are appreciated and valued as a customer. Sometimes it's the little things !!
Comfortable hotel, good breakfast in club
minnmson 22/05/2017 06:27The hotel is comfortable and what is expected. The breakfast in the club exceeded my expectations as the eggs were cooked well and there was bacon. Often the breakfast offered in a club is more limited and lower quality.
Going down hill
Travelprnon 22/05/2017 02:44Been to Sheraton manny times stay in the club floor. We thought after their recent renovation this hotel would be much nicer , wrong !! What a disappointment!! The new carpet in the hall way was dirty, one one had vacuumed it.
Stayed there for two days and had the same food for breakfast ! Coffee tasted water down! One day the evening service was not available at the club lounge . We were told because someone called in sick! That was 30 minutes after the evening service was supposed to have begun! Where is the manager? There was no sign to communicate this to the guests. We called and was told to come down to the front desk and voucher would be offered to get appetizer from the bar/restaurant in the lobby. A sign was eventually posted by the lounge. The appetizers were good at the restaurant. May be they should be doing the evening service instead of the club lounge.
This is not the Sheraton I have expected. Good thing I will not return to Des Moines for a long while. Good luck if you choose to stay there.
One last thing , they made a mistake on my charges and I had to request them to correct it since they missed my latest reservation change prior to my arrival!
Wedding
Lorias778on 16/05/2017 23:56Excited for a family wedding!!! So, I searched hotels in the West Des Moines area. Normally we stay @ a Marriott, so I booked with them. Driving in from Minneapolis was one thing, and learning that the reception was at the Sheraton, well, less driving for wedding, and not driving after the reception was very appealing to my husband and I. So I switched my reservation, based upon 3 things. The sleep experience, location, and less driving. I read some reviews, but spoke with hotel staff also.
So Wow!!!! It was the best nights sleep ever in a hotel, so I'm looking for a reason to revisit Sheraton!!! Plus, I learned that Marriott Rewards Members can combine points. So Members, sign up for Sheraton Rewards and combine them for use at a Sheraton or Marriott when booking. I was informed to have points transferred first to make it easier when making next reservations.
Nice hotel - smallish bathroom though
Kim Gon 12/04/2017 14:58Stayed because of volleyball tournament. This was the first time at this hotel as I generally stay at 2 1/2 star that include breakfast because the cost is so high to eat breakfast and with some teenage girls and the $12 a piece - added over $50 to the already room price of $120 plus tax. Pool was very small however fitness center attached was the best I have seen. Kids used it also which was nice. The girls were bouncing on the balls in the room when the front desk staff approached them to tell them not to do it any more. She wasn't super friendly about it either. There was off-duty police officers in the lobby area both Friday and Saturday evening which made me feel like the hotel may not be safe. Not sure if that is always the case. I personally would not stay here upon my return trips to Des Moines unless I they do priceline. Bathroom was very small and a little dated but certainly usable. We had to return the following weekend for another kid's volleyball and that team stayed at the Baymont in Airport which was I thought a nicer room and pool with hot tub. Same price as they have high rates on the weekends that large events are happening in town.
Oh, I should mention that the front desk upon check Friday 3/31 was awesome and let us get our room early. Big thank you to her.
