Enjoyable Stay.
LeighCenturionon 12/08/2017 21:34We have just returned from a three night stay at the Sheridan Guest House. It is located on Newhaven Road / Bonnington Grove, Leith and is a ten minute bus ride outside Edinburgh city centre. The buses are every ten minutes wherever you are between Leith and Edinburgh so this was not a problem. There is a stop either side of the road and just a few yards from the Sheridan. The bus fares are £1.60 for a single journey, however, you get better value buying a day ticket for £4 so you can make as many journeys as you like in a day. This is good value. A quick tip re the buses is to make sure you have the correct money for the fare because the drivers do not give change. I would estimate it is a 30 minute walk from the city. The Sheridan is located in between the city centre and Leith and is therefore in a good location to visit the city and the Royal Yacht Britannia at Ocean Terminal, Leith. The latter is also ten minutes away on the bus.
The Sheridan is run by Tom and Rowena and they are very welcoming people. The room that we had was fine, but the only negative was the en-suite which was not spacious. It has been built into the room and was a little cramped. This made it difficult to use the sink. A sliding partition door provides the privacy from the main room. The shower was lovely and overall the en-suite is clean and modern. Shower gels and shampoos and towels are provided. However, if booking here I would phone ahead and ask if the other rooms have larger en-suite facilities. We were in room 2. The room we had had a flat screen TV, tea / coffee making facilities, and the bed was large and comfy. Rowena provides her home-made cookies daily and bottles of water were provided daily as part of the cost of staying here. There is also a hairdryer provided.
The breakfast was well cooked and enjoyable, and there is plenty of choice re cereals, fruit and cooked options. The dining room is really nice and airy with lovely décor.
The building itself is very nice with lots of character too.
Rowena is a very friendly and chatty host which makes you feel at home.
I would recommend a stay at the Sheridan because it is good value for Edinburgh at this time of year. I would also recommend a stay here for the other positive reasons I have stated in this review
Home From Home
Richard Pon 10/08/2017 13:15A real home from home. Rowena and Tom are great hosts. Spending time to find out about you, but not in a bad way. Very nice rooms. Extremely clean. Home made biscuits are exquisite. Breakfast is worth the whole cost of the stay. Nothing is too much and everything is freshly made.
Staying here enhances our festival experience
Third year we have been here and will look forward to next year.
Thank you Tom and Rowena
It's superb!
Johannes Won 01/08/2017 16:53A great place to stay! Very friendly and going out of their way to make our stay great, we felt immediatly at home. Charmingly decorated and cozy atmosphere. Very tasty breakfast. Thanks for having us. Recommended 10/10!
great home cooking
Rachel Lon 23/07/2017 20:25Rowena makes this a lovely place to stay with her great cooking. This included yoghurt pots with Rowena's home grown raspberries and homemade granola and truly delicious scrambled eggs and salmon and Rowena's own baked bread. There are also pancakes and other treats beside the traditional full Scottish breakfast choices. But even without the food the rooms are grand with tall ceilings and comfortable. There is beautiful and interesting art work to enjoy throughout the house and flowering orchids in the rooms is a lovely touch. The ensuite bathroom was small but newly done - noting there is only a shower. Our room had two bay windows to the street which let in plenty of natural light and we did not find it noisy. The No.11 bus into the city stops right across the guest house and is frequent, this made it very easy to get into town in about 20 minutes. Rowena was a delight and we were very impressed are by her seemingly effortless management of all breakfast orders and cooking. We highly recommend the Sheriden Guest House.
Lovely visit
hdi409on 15/07/2017 22:20We stayed for 3 nights and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this lovely B & B! The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean (our bathroom was a little on the small side, not a problem for us but may be a problem if you were a larger person). It was away from the hustle and bustle of downtown which was wonderful. It was an easy bus ride or 30 minute scenic walk to to most of the attractions. Breakfast was delicious, we enjoyed looking out over the beautiful front garden each morning.
