Friendly staff with kindness.

First of all, the Shigira Resort is huge so it takes a while to walk around. There is a shuttle bus you could ride to some restaurants, bar, spa and other places you want to go. The Jacuzzi Suite that we choose is located on the other side of the hotel image you mostly could see from the TripAdvisor. Not bad facilities(not the state-of-the-art though) but, two types of breakfast we could decide was absolutely delicious! I recommend you to rent a car to drive around the island. All staffs are not very fluent with English but don't worry, he/she will help you as much as possible!

Fee for resort beach facilities & outdated resort

1Moniqueeeon 16/11/2016 05:40

We visited here after coming from the Ritz Carlton in Okinawana where we stayed for 4 days (where the bar was set very high already! Of course for a different price point -though not much)

We booked this place based on the few English reviews posted and from the resort website. You will need to appreciate that the resort is catered to locals, nothing is in English, this included room service menu and basic resort offering is only in Japanese.

The resort offers airport shuttle which was convenient. Upon check in, we had to wait for an English speaker to serve us. We got offered a free upgrade which was very nice. Once we finally checked in we didn't get the key, which was what we were trying to say when we were escorted to our room. The hotel staff later realised and called to advise, and dropped off the key.

Overall the resort interior feel is very outdated, and so was our room and it had this musty dusty smell. While the exterior landscape of the resort overlooking the beach is breathtaking. The resort staff are very nice and friendly, and do try their best to accommodate. There are two breakfast options buffet or plate, we tried both options and were not impressed by the quality (3 star standard).

The resort despite how it's marketed lacks some of the very basics which is expected from a resort that market itself as five star and for the price you are paying.

The most disappointing experience is there was a fee at the beach resort to use the Cabana, towels and toilet facilities despite being a patron at the resort. Most of the beach patrons instead found a shady area on the sand and camped out with a towel (that you had to bring!). Because I am 7 months pregnant this was not an option, I had to hire a cabana for 2000 Yen.

A friend from Australia had some flowers arranged as a surprise, who contacted the resort. Her feedback was that it was that it is harder than it should have been. I received the flowers, though there was no personalise card and chocolate (despite requested). I was really surprised that we didn't get any proactive acknowledgement from the resort of the bday occasion. Even in the Ritz we got a card wishing me an upcoming happy bday. As you can see from my other reviews, I normally go away for my bday and all occasion have always received a little something whether if it's just a card from the hotel or resort, which was a nice unexpected touch.

The room service was not great, and it was more of the bed being done and a top up of bathroom amenities. They forgot our daily complimentary water, which we had to call to tell, they then had to check that we weren't lying and then call back to confirm they will deliver the water.

We only tried the pizza on the resort which was ok, because we didn't want to waste money on the high price local resort food. Instead we had lunch and dinner at a local restaurant (kitchen Mihorin) nearby where the food, price and service is exemplary. The local restaurant doesn't have an English menu, tip use google translate.
I will also be putting a review on their page with pictures.

Overall the resort offered a nice landscape but unfortunately fell short on a lot of the experience you'd expect from a resort. Disappointing experience especially because the landscape of the island is so breath taking. I would not be recommending this resort to my friends especially at the price you're paying.

Other tip: there is no ATM on the resort. All of the facilities on the resort accept card except for the beach house if you'd need to use the toilet or towels!

Great Resort with Good Facilities

Stayed for a couple of nights in a private cottage room with its own pool, and had a very relaxing time. Went for an early Christmas break, and still got great weather throughout, though the pool was a bit cold to use. The room was enormous, and well-equipped. Happy hours in the evenings were great, before dinner, with very attentive staff. The resort seems to grow every time we go there.

Amazing!

Stayed in a suite for a few nights and then a cottage with private pool for 2 nights with my wife and daughter. Had an absolutely fantastic time at the Allamanda which i'll remember forever. The food at all the restaurants was very good and the staff were all excellent, the service was phenomenal. The beach was fantastic with clear water and we saw many colourful fish, walking around the resort there were beautiful plants and butterflies everywhere. The beds were very comfortable and large, the rooms were gorgeous. Hope to return one day.

Heaven on earth

Stayed for a long weekend on the fourth floor suite with private pool. Bliss!

Pool was very good sized for the two of us. Great sized suite too (although be aware that the 4th floor suites don't have king beds, only twin). Beautiful bath with so many amenities including face masks and beautiful aroma oils to add to the tub.

The sushi dinner was so good we went both nights. The chef is very charismatic and went out of his way to give us a different dining experience the second night. We really wanted to eat "yashi-gani" or coconut crab. He organised to have a live one ready for us the next day and prepared it beautifully with some local "aobudai" sashimi. Sake paired well too.

For those with suite rooms, there is a lounge that serves all day free flow Louis Roederer champagne so we enjoyed that a couple of times.

We also got a shiatsu couples massage in our room. Mine was good but his wasn't strong enough so I guess it all depends on who you get.

We are divers and that was the main purpose for our trip. Unfortunately though, we find that almost all dive shops want you to be ready to go from 8am which makes it hard to really relax in the morning and sleep in while on holiday. But the staff here set us up with the guy from Penguin Divers who took us on two beach dives just with us. He is Fijian and spoke fluent English. We are thinking about going back this summer and I will definitely be getting in touch with him again. Highly recommended to any other English speaking divers who enjoy a sleep in but still want to dive on holiday.

Price-wise, it's very reasonable for what you get. All-in-all, it was such a relaxing, beautiful long weekend. The staff really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and we will definitely be heading back before this summer is over.
