Spacious and Comfortable Condos in Lush Setting
Bryan_Careyon 23/07/2017 18:30Hilton Head is a popular travel destination and a place I have visited in the past. When we were looking for a place to vacation this summer, we were torn between a few destinations, but ultimately decided on a return visit to this east coast island. And our lodging of choice was Spinnaker at Shipyard.
Condo style resorts are our usual choice for family vacations. We like them best because they are like a home away from home, complete with the basic necessities. Spinnaker at Shipyard easily fulfills our family needs with two full bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a full kitchen stocked with dishes, cookware, and small appliances, plus a large size washer and dryer. They even provide 2 bicycles for use on the trails and each unit has a large, outdoor balcony. Ours overlooked a pond and the golf course and my kids had fun each day watching the wildlife, including a 5- foot alligator that occasionally stepped out of the water to enjoy the sun, just steps away from our balcony.
Spinnaker at Shipyard is located in a lush setting, surrounded by tall trees and subtropical plants. The entrance is private and is monitored 24/7, so you feel safe. There are very few lights, so when it gets dark, it is very dark. This did cause us a few minor issues when we arrived during the late hours, as it was a little difficult to navigate, but we eventually found our unit.
As for other amenities, Spinnaker at Shipyard has a nice pool area with hot tub, tennis courts, children’s play area, putting green, and grills available for guest usage. They have a few covered cabanas surrounding the pool, which are available on a first- come, first- served basis. They even sponsored a wine and cheese gathering for guests one afternoon, which was nice. There are not many other Spinnaker sponsored events, however, so if you want a place of lodging with daily planned activities, then this is not the resort for you. Spinnaker at Shipyard is the type of place where you are essentially left on your own to plan and do what you like, knowing that a spacious, comfortable condo is waiting for you after a long day of exploration.
Are there any cons to staying at Spinnaker at Shipyard? Yes, there are a few. One is the check in process. They do not have a 24 hour front desk. If you arrive after hours, you have to call ahead of time to get a special code. You will then have to punch in the code at a special lock box, located right outside the resort offices. It will have an information packet that you can then use to get into your unit, but the room keys are only temporary- they expire in a day, so you need to be ready to go back to the office the next day, when they open, to complete your check- in. This is less convenient than many will prefer. Another issue is with updates. The units are comfortable, but they have blemishes that need attention. The bathrooms would be a good place to start. They are plain and unappealing and the sinks are too low and feel awkward. The kitchen in our unit had some cracked tiles that need replacing as well. No, these issues will not directly impact the comfort of your stay very much, but they will result in some people lowering their rating of the property and they prevent me from giving Spinnaker at Shipyard the rating it might otherwise deserve.
Hilton Head Island is a cool place and one that is excellent for a family getaway. I had not been here in nearly 12 years when I decided to return and Spinnaker at Shipyard did turn out to be a nice choice for our lodging needs. If you can get past the blemishes on the inside of the units, you should find Spinnaker at Shipyard a good place for a family vacation. We did like it here overall and it has enough positive aspects to recommend.
Very nice
nickip85on 20/07/2017 04:30We stayed in a 2 BR/ 2.5 BA. This location is very nice. The condos are fairly clean, require a few improvements. (i.e. Carpet replacement, light replacement, comforter stains, etc.) The location is nice and very close to the beach.
Fun vacation
TTSquaredon 06/03/2017 13:56My family of 4 had an awesome time at Spinnaker at Shipyard. A 2 story wonderful townhouse on the golf course with free golf, tennis and bikes. We loved waking up in the morning and siting on the deck eating breakfast overlooking the water fountain on the lagoon. The bike paths and beach was fantastic. There is also a great hotel with restaurant on the beach in the plantation that made for a relaxing dinner.
Wonderful trip!
NO2Diveron 10/02/2017 00:48My husband and I spent a wonderful week here at Spinnaker. It's our first time to Hilton Head Island. Our townhouse has been more than we could have asked for. Everything is here if you want to make just about anything (I haven't seen a potato ricer, so...um..if that's important to you and something you'd nit-pic over..bring one..there is a masher though...) They have the basics to get you started. Hand soap for the bathrooms, dish soap, a few dishwasher tablets and a box of laundry soap for 1 or 2 loads, a couple garbage bags...you know your family/friends, if you're going to use more then this, bring your own or Hilton Head does have a Dollar Tree..you might have to spend a couple bucks but...you're on Hilton Head, you'll be spending bucks anyway...trust me.
The bed has been comfortable, we were here for Super Bowl so having the extremely large TV in the living area was a treat! We made use of the free bicycles the condo has and road the beach today...I've never done that before and it was great!! It has been nice enough out to have the screen door open and listen to the fountain out on the pond behind us. It's been a very relaxing week....we'll be back for sure.
Winter get away
