We paid quite a high price with breakfast and dinner and stayed two nights. You can imagine eating the same buffet dinner for 2 nights. Agree with most comments that the dinner spread is huge but low quality served to probably large tour groups. We just stayed in Tsuruga Hokuten ten at Abashiri and New Furano Prince where their buffet spread had higher quality.

The staff are very friendly but not experienced. The Japanese lady could not understand our question in English and in the end I asked a young Taiwanese intern to help me translate.

I was not given an explanation on the first night why we couldnt book the Kaiseki dinner and had to have the buffet dinner for both nights. Simply because the Japanese receptionist does not speak much english.

Looks like the most decent hotel in the area so no choice. Not the usual Japanese standard of hospitality service. But the Shiretoko Five Lakes are worth a drive.

Absolutely comfortable stay in Okhotsk Club room

I would have rated this hotel Excellent if my room had not been so warm - we opened the 2 tiny windows for a bit of reprieve. Anyway, Club rooms are difficult to get and we were able to secure the room with the help of a Japanese travel agent and booking half a year in advance.

The seaview room was absolutely comfortable - the seagulls and boats did not bother us at all. We were on the 7th floor of the West Wing and my brother's room with the private onsen was absolutely delightful - next to the onsen was a patio for cooling down after a dip/soak. The Club rooms had 2 double beds with Simmons mattresses, a large daybed for 2, leather rocking chair, and fireplace. We stayed a total of 5 nights - we had 2 absolutely lazy days just moseying around the neighbourhood including taking the 90 minute cruise and climbing up Oronko rock.

Service staff was friendly. A number of them are able to converse in English. The buffet breakfast and dinner were absolutely wonderful - we did not feel bored at all even after 5 days. No doubt the selection was wide but we had our favourites that we kept helping ourselves to day after day.

A well located and well run hotel indeed.

Great hotel, beautiful rooms and well organized dinner and breakfast.

We spent one night here. The welcome was very pleasant and professional. All things were taken care off very fast. The room at the 7th floor with your own onsen and sea view is terrific! The room is very spacious and luxurious. The onsen is great and you can sit in it and enjoy the lovely view. Dinner and breakfast were very good. There was plenty to choose from and the quality was good. Highly recommended!!!

A great stay with creature comforts close to the wilderness

This hotel is grand in every sense; the decor, facilities, food, service etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay; especially after a hard day out photographing the landscapes and wildlife. It was worth every penny and I look forward to returning there whenever I'm visiting Shiretoko. My room has an outdoor bath with a wonderful view of the lighthouse on a frozen seascape.

Amazing service, excellent food

We stayed for one night.
First off, we would like to complement the doorman/porter that greeted us after we parked our car. We were a bit unsure if we found the right hotel, as we did not see a signage in English. He read our minds (or lost expressions) and welcomed us to Grand Hotel. We went inside to check in, and before we could even inform the front desk our names, the luggage cart appeared with my name on it! Like wow! Talk about knowing your guests.
Thereafter, we found out we had half an hour to book and get to the meeting point for the Goto 3hr guided tour. We were not sure where the meeting point was, and asked the front desk, a lobby staff, and I think a concierge, and no one could tell us exactly where to head to. One said it was 10min away, another said 25mins. We headed out, and bumped into the doorman again. It just occurred to us as a last attempt to ask him, and wow again! He dashed inside and grabbed us a map of Shiretoko, came out and circled for us on the map where we had to get to. Thanks to him, we made it in time for that last guided tour for the day. We did not catch his name, but he was on duty at abt 1430hrs on 16may. He is really an amazing guy, please thank him for us!
Service aside, we were also very impressed by the variety and quality of the food served. We took a dinner+breakfast package. We expected dinner to be just ok as it was a buffet dinner, but what we found was such a wide variety that there wasn't enough space in our stomachs to sample a little bit of everything. And the food was fresh, and very well prepared. The flavour and taste was excellent.
Shiretoko Grand Hotel really spoiled us, and everything else on our trip just could not meet the high standards they set.
The view from the seaview room also did not disappoint. We were greeted by seagulls and mist rolling in from the ocean.
If we were to come back to Shiretoko, this will be our first choice for accomodation.
