Dunhuang is a must see
chrisharper811on 19/06/2017 03:30Dunhuang is a place that every visitor of China should see! I went with Lily of Silk Road Tours. The Silk Road Hotel is a wonderful place, with superb views of Echo Mountain. There is much to do at the hotel, including the cultural show each night. Also, I went to the Mogao Caves twice. The English guides can be poor or good. I had one of each. I also went to the desert to see the Jade Pass and the Han wall. The trip to the Yadan desert sites is a long way, and you can only go on a tour bus, with many Chinese taking selfies. The local food is not great. Overall, though, it was a wonderful trip!
One of the Best!
Carolle Mon 17/06/2017 10:20On a recent trip taking in the Silk Road (s) The Silk Road Hotel proved to be one of the best we visited if not the best.(we had 11 hotels in all)
Not only does the hotel have a good location a little way out of Dunhuang but it also has wonderful views of the amazing Sand Dunes with colours changing as sun rises or sets thus creating mystical shadows. The Hotel architects cleverly created the dining area on the rooftop thus enabling visitors to dine under the stars.
The hotel is well appointed, has an entrancing large lobby, has friendly helpful staff, is cleverly designed to fit into the landscape. I was sad to leave.
Fabulous Oasis
Col Non 14/06/2017 03:49This is an excellent hotel with most courteous and friendly staff. Our spacious room on second floor had a view of the dunes, and had all the facilities one would hope to have, but not necessarily expect. The bed and pillows were particularly comfortable which was a welcome change to the normally hard beds one has come to expect from hotels in China. The room and bathroom has been very well cleaned and serviced. The room had a power dock with USB charging ports to suit AU plugs. The food in the rooftop restaurant was excellent in quality and variety as it catered for western food preferences. Coffee came from expresso machines and was better than Starbucks. The hotel provided a shuttle bus into the centre of town for guests wanting to visit the night market. This is a fabulous hotel and would love to stay longer than the two nights we were here.
Best hotel in the area. Gorgeous views
Jim Bon 03/06/2017 01:04For my money, this is the best hotel in Dunhuang. From the rooftop restaurant the views of the Sand Dunes at Singing Sands are spectacular. They serve an outstanding breakfast, both Chinese and American. The lobby is attractively decorated with historical scenes both Eastern and Western. The decor is exquisite as is the hotel architecture.
Very good stay in Dunhuang
ValerieM7651on 30/05/2017 07:36The hotel is beautiful. Rooms are very cosy, and the people super nice. Not all can speak English, but they always try to find a colleague to help. I asked for late check out, which was immediately accepted.
Beautiful design, far from the common hotels with marble and air conditioning everywhere.
The breakfast on the roof top, facing the dunes, is very good, and even better with such a good view.
I highly recommend !
