Great location and service - short walk from the HKG Macau ferry terminal
2muchtimeontheroadon 18/06/2017 21:20If you need a hotel that is close to the Hong Kong Macau ferry terminal this is a great choice. It is a very short walk from the ferry terminal to the hotel and you can walk even if you have luggage. The staff was so friendly during check-in and also made sure that I knew what events were going on around the city during the weekend so that I would not miss anything. The whole hotel is non-smoking. The rooms are clean, smell fresh and very well maintained. The hotel is very quiet both during the day and night. They don't have a breakfast area so they bring breakfast to your room. They have a mobile phone in each room that provides free local calls and free international calls to some destinations but more importantly you get free data and maps. So you can use it to get around Hong Kong without worrying about international roaming charges on your personal phone. For people that complain about the size of the rooms, well this is Hong Kong and rooms are generally small unless you are willing to pay a lot of money. But the rooms are well laid out and very comfortable. I'm definitely going to stay here during future trips.
Hong Kong Boutique Hotel, Sheung Wan area
Liz Don 05/05/2017 21:35Very nice boutique hotel in the popular area of Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Easy to get to from the HK airport, clean, very friendly staff, breakfast included. Rooms are small, as to be expected in Hong Kong, but rooms are efficient, beds are comfortable. We found the area perfect for getting out and enjoying all that HK has to offer. Would stay there again.
NIce but small hotel room
Rasxxxxxxxon 03/05/2017 23:09Booked this hotel for an overnight stay in Hong Kong. Nice clean room and lobby. Helpful staff. Breakfast is included and served in the room - no dining area in the hotel.
The room I had was very small, just big enough for double bed and small space to move around it. When I checked in about 7pm I was offered a "promotional upgrade" to a larger room, which I regretted not taking when I saw the room. The larger rooms are fairly roomy. But since I was only staying one night I didn't bother changing. If I were staying longer I would definitely get the larger room. Price was high (about US $135 for the size of the room, but maybe that's Hong Kong Central.
Bathroom modern and clean, with shower, adequate size, no issues.
Staff recommended an area to go for dinner a short taxi ride away. Next day I went to one of many nearby eateries for lunch.
I would stay there again if I could get a larger room for not much more money.
Great location and excellent customer service
Phil Jon 27/04/2017 21:54Set in the Chinese neighbourhood of Sheung Wan this hotel is also within walking distance of the numerous bars and restaurants along Hollywood Road and Lan Kwai Fong. The ferry terminals to Macau and Kowloon are also a short distance away. The hotel is modern and well maintained. The staff could not do enough for us. The standard rooms are small but adequate.
Friendly staff, great location, comfortable beds. Top marks!
sanvegas489on 24/04/2017 22:59It took me a long time to chose a hotel for our Hong Kong trip. There was so much choice, I didn't know where to begin. Then I noticed Sohotel. It was in our budget and for the first time I read reviews of friendly staff and comfortable beds, something that had been missing in many of the reviews I had spent weeks reading. It also came with breakfast every morning, coffee on demand, free wifi, a handy phone and it was in a central location. The rooms were small, but all the rooms I'd looked at were small. The Sohotel stood out as it had storage!
We arrived at the hotel late afternoon, tired after a long journey from Scotland. We got the train to Hong Kong station then the free airport shuttle bus that dropped us off at the corner (iclub Sheung Wan stop), very convenient. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The guy who checked us in appeared to be in training as the female receptionist seemed to be keeping an eye on things and giving him pointers. He asked us if we wanted an upgrade. We asked how much it would be, but he wanted to show us the room first. Desperate to just get to our room and shower we declined. We knew we had a small room (premier double room) and had prepared ourselves! We agreed a time for breakfast, what we wanted and accepted their offer to send coffee up to the room.
There is only one lift serving the hotel, but we never had to wait more than a few minutes for it. There were three rooms on our floor, and we were barely aware of other guests. We got to the room and it was about the size we were expecting. We were glad of the rail to hang our clothes and shelves. There was a ledge above the bed which was handy and space on the windowsill. We found spaces to put our cases standing up, and coped really well with two of us in the room for a week. The fridge was a good size, and came with reasonably priced mini bar items. After a few days housekeeping took the mini bar items out and left them to the side once they realised we'd been shopping and were putting our own items in the fridge.
The shower room was a good size too, we didn't have any issues. Again, there were ledges and storage behind the mirror so we managed to find room for all our toiletries. The shower was excellent.
The breakfast choice was continental (croissant, roll and a pastry with a boiled egg) or a ham, cheese and salad sandwich (white bread, no crusts!) along with orange juice and coffee. It set us up well for the day, and was delivered at our chosen time each day. One morning we had left the "do not disturb" light on by accident. Instead of knocking the door, the lady contacted reception who phoned us to let us know our breakfast was at the door. It was the little touches like that that showed they care about their guests.
The location was good. We were able to walk to the Star Ferry in about 20 minutes and to the bars of SoHo, and the mid-level escalators in about 15 minutes. It was very handy for the Sheung Wan subway station and trams and buses to everywhere we wanted to go. We loved the little streets surrounding the hotel, and were constantly baffled by all the dried sea food shops!
The free phone provided by the hotel was excellent. It really was. We relied heavily on the map function as you could put in where you wanted to go, and it would tell you the bus, tram and train options with directions to the stop and the numbers that you needed. We wouldn't have navigated the city as effortlessly without it. It saved us a lot of time and hassle.
I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for central, friendly and comfortable (despite the size) accommodation in Hong Kong. I would certainly return.
