My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at Solar dos Mouros for five nights in October, 2017. This is a wonderful boutique hotel, not inexpensive, but worth it for the comfort of the rooms, the delicious and bountiful breakfast buffet, the proximity to both the Castelo Sao Jorge and a nearby elevator to take you to Praca de Figueira within about ten minutes, and for its excellent staff. We cannot compliment Momo, Bruno, and the other reception employee (whose name I didn't get) for their attention to us in giving us directions, making excellent recommendations and reservations for us at restaurants, and other critical details. Momo was our go-to person for the time we were there and he is a gem. Also, leftover nata (custard tarts) from breakfast were set out in the day for people to snack on, which we did.

Just to be clear, this review refers to the hotel’s restaurant only, not the hotel as such...
The comments below were verbally shared with the restaurant on the day when we paid the bill.
The good things first: Nice sea view from the terrace and very close to the castle, but that is unfortunately it.
Service was very slow and the two waiters we had to deal with seemed not very familiar with what is on the menu. For two glasses of mediocre wine and a tiny platter of some greasy sausage and tasteless cheese we paid well above EUR 30. I was with a local in this place and she could not believe what we were served. There is so much better food and wine out there in Lisbon. This is bad value for money and I will not go back.

This is an old house that has been converted to an hotel. It has some character, but you can hear everything from the other rooms. The breakfast is great and the service too. Very friendly hosts. The balcony is great for a coffee in the morning. The main problem though is location. There's no public transportation near-by and even for Uber is hard to get there. I wouldn't recommend if you want to stay near the center. If not, then it is a nice place to stay

We stayed at Solar Dos Mouros for 3 nights with 6 friends for a birtthday celebration. It could not have been a better choice, very comfortable, lovely terrace with great views, very convenient at the same time as being quiet, short (if hilly!) walk up from the centre, and super-friendly and charming staff.

I had an overnight stay on my way back to the US. Arrived late but the person at the hotel was very welcoming. Breakfast was delicious. I was just sad I couldn't stay longer to explore the old town. I am hoping to come back in January and stay for a full week.
