I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I was not sure what to expect based on the on line reviews, but the hotel was easily up to the level of a Marriott or similar chain. The desk staff were very friendly but more importantly, the room was clean and quiet. No maintenance problems everything looked new and well cared for. I would definitely stay here again.
Amazing Generous Hotel!!

I apologize, this is a long review, but also an interesting real-life story to read...
I am a world frequent flyer, I travel almost every month on business and every quarter on personal. My story with the Somerset Inn - Preferred Hotels in Troy, Michigan started on the 27th of September 2017!
It was really a very long day before I got to the hotel... I was on a business trip from London, direct flight scheduled to land Detroit, MI by 15:30 on the 27th. However, when I got to Heathrow airport (London) that morning I realized that I forgot my passport at home... Yes, I missed my non-refundable flight because of this... and yes, I have to ask my boss to approve a brand new (two-way) ticket to Detroit due to the business meeting importance the second day. Regardless of how we managed to get the ticket approved which was a long painful and stressful time for me indeed, it was an over priced ticket and it will get me to Detroit through a connecting flight in Atlanta, GA!!
I was not able to sleep on both flights due to the stress and by the time I landed Detroit (12:00am) local midnight, I was exhausted. Add to that one hour to get through airport and cab it to the hotel. By this time, it has been a complete 24 hours since I woke up in London trying to catch my originally/missed flight... 24 hours with no sleep. My next all day long meeting literally starts in 8 hours from the moment I got to the hotel.
When I got to the hotel front-desk (finally, haaaay!), the gentleman explained to me that since I did not show up on my original expected arrival time (15:30-ish), my original room was given to another guest and it is only one room left but it HAS NO BED!!
After a long silent moment I had while looking at him with my frozen face, he explained to me he will get me a foldable bed to manage the night if I wish and in the morning they will move me to another room for the second night (since my stay is 2 nights), and due to this inconvenience, they will give me free breakfast for two days in the hotel restaurant. Otherwise, he will help me by calling local hotels to find me a stay there shall I decided not to go with the foldable bed. Thinking about my meeting tomorrow and how tired I was at that moment, I decided to sleep at the end on that foldable bed. In fact, that foldable bed was not bad at all, I was freaked out when I first been given this option, but in fact, I slept well... Maybe all I needed was anything to sleep on, do not know!
I made it to the meeting and it was a successful one after all. When I came back to the hotel, everyone was smiling at me as if they knew I am the "guy who slept on the floor last night" :)
They told me they moved me to another room on the ground level! (I thought they will give me the highest room with the nicest view they have), but whatever, when I went to the ground-level room, I found it a massive suite with a private garden and a huge multi-section bathroom!! For a moment I wanted to call my girlfriend in San Francisco to find a flight and come right now!!
I wish I knew this is going to happen so that I planned for a party in that luxurious facility. I really enjoyed my stay... thank you!
Now, when I was about to check-out, I presented my credit card to pay for my stay, the staff told me that my stay was FREE of CHARGE due to the incident!!! What a great staff and management this hotel has... unbelievable!
I wanted to thank personally that front-desk staff who professionally explained to me the situation when I first got to the hotel and he explained to me the options that I have. I apologize to forget his name, but I appreciate if the hotel management could deliver my regards to him (He was on night duty on 28th September at 1:00 am after midnight)... Kudos to you!
In all my previous travels, I never ever got such a generous complimentary. I hope my review can be considered as a humble gesture from me in saying THANK YOU!
You really fixed my week!
Excellent reunion hotel for family, lovely breakfast, mall browsing, relaxing in garden courtyard.

We hosted a group of nine adults, and everyone enjoyed the experience. Rooms were able to be grouped generally together as we had requested, and each were pleasant and comfortable. We had time to relax and enjoy the garden/patio area, and especially ejoyed the delicious breakfast which was included. A nice plus is that you can order whatever you want, and generously are not limitied to an early time so visiting was leisurely. All staff was helpful, but espeically attentive was the hotel manager, who made our visit "glitch free." A big plus is the excellent location to a fabulous mall, and many other local restaurants. We will certainly come again. Highly recommend.
Beautiful hotel with friendly staff

I stayed here for a conference. The hotel is beautiful and I was upgraded to a newly renovated room. My room with 2 beds had so much space and beautiful views of the courtyard. The bathroom is small with luxurious finishes. The room was quiet. The staff was super friendly and helpful.
