Could be better
David Lon 04/06/2017 11:55We picked this hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Although we enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, well designed superior room (facing the Arabic gardens), the above average food at the restaurant, the hotel fell short of our exoectations. Sometimes it is the little things that can make a difference between good and excellent. Given our extensive travel experience we were a little suprised we were not offered any drinks or basket of fruits or a bottle of cava to welcome our special day of celebration. Bottled mineral water was not even supplied as well. No effort was made to make us feel 'special' even though the staff were generally polite and courteous. Also, instead of imposing a charge of 10 euro for room service the management could have left this to clients who should wished to be pampered and would have gladly tip the server anyway. When we left the hotel we did not experience anything out of ordinary to make us long to return to this beautiful hotel in the near future.
Dissapointing
jjrcmon 03/05/2017 17:38We made a reservation for a 3 night stay at Son Julia last Easter inspired by our good experience at Torralbenc in Menorca. The experience was not positive at all. Although the building and the garden are nice, there are many shortcomings:
1. Staff at the reception is not fluent in Spanish. So if you do not speak English or German you might have communication problems.
2. Spa facilities are dissapointing. Water of main pool is extremely cold making even a short swim very uncomfortable. Jacuzzi is dirty.
3. Room cleaning is far from a 5 star hotel standards. Please see picture attached of the hair dryer in room.
4. Air conditioning in gym delivers a cold flow of air over machines. As with the spa, the facility lacks the appropriate level of quality. If you train there and sweat be ready to catch a flu.
5. Hotel is surrounded by roads. If your room faces the rear of the hotel, you will have the new highway about 300 meters from your window. If you leave window open you will constantly hear the noise of the passing cars.
6. Hotel decor seems old fashioned like the one you would find in a classical Parador de Turismo in Spain.
The positive side of the experience was the restaurant: both service and food was very good. Breakfast was also good. Waiters in the morning were extremely nice and helpful.
Will not come back
A lovely week
booBishopon 05/12/2016 16:41A small quiet hotel. Lovely settings. Lovely swimming pool and garden.Breakfast was good, Maria was welcoming in the morning and was a fine waitress. Staff very friendly and accommodation very comfortable.Traffic noise from the highway could be a problem.Great base also to visit Palma.
terrible place left us all with a bad feeling
Billie Bon 01/12/2016 20:12sadly we had a terrible stay at this hotel
i have no intention here to be negative
but turned out to be a very expensive mistake
will not recommend at all based on our experience. much nicer hotels on the island
im a seasoned traveller
having stayed at many places worldwide including aman resorts, four seasons, claridges in london, pierre in new york, smaller boutique hotels and back packing places along the way.
never in my travels have i left a place with such a bitter taste and horrible feeling which lingered for a good 2/3 days after leaving. the same for all our party.
I've questioned myself why this could be?
possible answers….
pretentious atmosphere
some of the staff operating like cardboard cutouts disingenuous do the job but no sentiment
weird vibes….we considered that with the house’s history maybe weird vibes are lingering around. for some reason none of us could really relax here.
hugely overpriced for what has to offer
small details
orange juice at breakfast is not fresh….annoyed me when paying top dollar to stay
beautiful chapel at front building now used to deposit luggage….did not sit well with me
only lounge area was impersonal/ mish mash of furnishings / bar was always unattended / atmosphere of a ghost town.
likewise bar area at smaller pool unattended….ghost town again….
hotel situated off main busy road / can hear traffic from neighbouring main roads.
the hotel has a lush garden well maintained at the front but if this was not the case you would be sitting between 2 main roads. can hear the activity and buzz of traffic. not restful or peaceful at all
strong smells coming from spa as you walk down staircase to reach to spa area. too much chlorine in pool?
i have written this review not out of spite but to forewarn travellers who may be considering son julia.
wishing you all happy holidays.
Two day relax
IanyJimmyon 09/11/2016 17:43We decided to visit Son Julia for the Weekend but only one night was available when we booked and thought maybe another night would become available once there. We later found out the hotel was closing for the Winter and so impossible.
We booked the hotel mainly for the Spa advertised as we already live in Palma and wanted a relaxing Weekend.
Unfortunately the Spa pool was freezing cold and unuseable meaning only facility available was small jacuzzi and steam room as also the dry sauna was out of service.
The attention in the restaurant was excellent, although the menu was limited due to closing also. Multi lingual staff excellent and the lady who attended us at breakfast warm and friendly.
The hotel is historic with beautiful rooms, outdoor pools would be excellent in the Summer months also, all in all a beautiful place and setting close to Palma.
But really if you are selling rooms until the last day of closing, all facilities should be offered
