Basic but excellent
Thomas Con 11/06/2017 09:14Cottbus is a sleeply small town in Eastern Germany. It is 125km outside Berlin and very close to the Polish border. It seems to be a popular destination for domestic tourism. But for foreigners, the main reason why you would travel there is to have a medical consultation with a world-renowned non-mesh hernia repair expert Dr Andreas Koch.
The hotel is very centrally located. You can walk to the Old Market in three minutes. There is a big shopping center 150 m from the hotel. As for going anywhere in town, it never costs you more than €10 to take a cab.
The rooms are fairly spacious and very reasonably priced. The room I stayed in was a business category with a small kitchette and separate seating area and it was €90 including free use of the minibar. The bed was comfortable and the AC was functioning well. Breakfast was also included in the room price. It was a decent buffet accompanied by very good coffee (or capucino if you prefer).
This is a no frills hotel, the kind I prefer. They will help you with anything if you ask but they don't grab your suitcase open arrival hoping for a tip or show up at 6pm for a turn down service, again hoping for a tip. They let you be but are happy to assist if you need them.
At the front desk people were very nice, especially Hansen Mueller (I hope I remember his name correctly) who spoke excellent English. He let me stay two hours after check-out time to have one final visit with Dr. Koch even though the hotel was full. He also offered to send breakfast to my room even though they are not normally equipped for this. This is what I mean by them being ready to help you in any way.
There is a nice restaurant bar next to the hotel called EssCoBar and they are willing to provide room service through the front desk. Their food was excellent.
If you happen to travel to that part of Germany and if, like me, your idea of good service is hotel personnel giving you space while being ready to assist you in any way they can, I highly recommend Sorat Hotel. Friendly people, excellent service, charming rooms. I don't think you can do better in Cottbus. Or in many other places for that matter.
Great location, friendly personal, bad bathroom condition
ThomAddon 18/10/2016 11:03The stay was pleasent but first I need to clean the bathroom...the room was ok but for a 4-star category house and the Price I expect a clean room. The walls seemd very thin too...We stay in the 3rd floor near the Elevator...
Great central location.
Rob Kon 04/09/2016 07:27Stayed in late August. Great location to shops and restaurants. Nice outside area to chill on wonderful autumn weather.
Rooms were clean, for sleeping in, so good reason to get out and about in the town square.
Staff very friendly and I was appreciative they spoke very good english!
Reliable and friendly hotel in central yet quiet location
John Gon 21/10/2015 17:45Stayed here for 11th time and would not choose anywhere else for annual visit to Cottbus as location in the heart of the old town centre within walking distance of all main attractions is unmatched by any alternatives. No exceptional features, but good solid performance in all departments delivered at a reasonable price. That said, the breakfast buffet includes a wonderful contraption for squeezing juice from fresh oranges: a nice touch. Decor beginning to show age since first visit in 2002, but carpets recently renewed and further renovations will no doubt follow, and meanwhile cleanliness unaffected. Work most needed in underground garage (not exclusive to hotel), parts of which closed due to delapidation, so available spaces limited.
Value for money
RobbSydon 03/08/2015 16:25We have stayed in this hotel twice now and would return again. Having asked for a quiet room away from any internal or external noise, I am a very light sleeper, we were given the option to upgrade to a 'Comfort' room for an extra 10€. This was well worth the cost a it was really quiet. The beds are comfortable, although my wife has problems with the European style pillows collapsing overnight. The breakfast was an extra 13€ and gave us a good start to the day with the selection on offer. All in all a well located and well served hotel.
