An experience
Voelseron 23/05/2017 16:31We stayed here as a group on a motorcycle tour of Japan. The best way to describe it is as an resort hotel which caters for mainly Japanese public visiting the resident Onsen baths. So we were the odd ones out. However we received the same gracious welcome as everyone. We were staying in traditional rooms with tatami mats and being asked when we would like staff to come make our beds was an interesting experience. Unfortunately on this occasion we didn't take part in the onsen, but our stay was good.
Yes, the place is dated, but it was clean, warm and comfortable. Staff were, despite the language barrier, friendly and helpful.
Dirty room and utilities
cinderita2017on 16/05/2017 14:22cons: Stinky smoke smell in the room / dirty carpet, sofa and toilet / I almost fainted seeing residual noodle in the teapot
pros: Staffs are very polite and helpful
onsen: Onsen quality is good; personally prefer the outdoor style.
Huge hotel getting old
Alexandre Ton 15/04/2017 02:04It is a huge grey building near the train station. Room getting really old compared to the lobby, restaurants...
On the whole, disappointing and expensive hotel only good for hot spring baths. Avoid it.
Convenient location with impeccable service
Germ Won 14/04/2017 07:43We stayed in the Superior Room (with tatami area) for 2 nights. The room size was comfortable for our family of four adults - two would have to sleep on the futon beds. The hotel is just a short 5 minutes walk from the station, though they have shuttle from the train station to the hotel to coincide with the train arrival timings. The onsens were a great experience. Room was clean and comfortable.
The only downside I felt was that the swimming pool and gym was not included. You would have to pay an additional JPY 10,000 (if I remembered correctly) per person to use these facilities.
A Memorable Stay in Gero Onsen Town
CHTeoon 25/02/2017 06:45Stayed in Suimeikan for two nights, on 9 and 10 Feb.
It is a very big ryokan and very conveniently located - just a few minutes' walk from Gero train station, and walking distance to Gero town which one can explore on foot. Despite it being near to Gero train station, the ryokan still provides shuttle service to and from the train station.
I chose a western-style room with two single beds and was given one with beautiful mountain, river and garden views. The room was very big and comfortable. It can comfortably accommodate up to 5-6 people! Breakfast was included. It was definitely value for money.
There are a few choices of onsen to choose from, including panaromic view and outdoor.
Don't miss taking time to appreciate the beautiful decorations throughout the ryokan, especially all the beautiful art pieces and also the Japanese garden! There is also a beautiful, elegant Noh stage. A senior staff conducts guided tour of the ryokan at 5pm everyday, but only in Japanese language. It is an interesting tour although I couldn't fully understood what he said. It would be great if a similar tour is conducted in English for foreign visitors.
The ryokan also has facilities like swimming pool, gym, karaoke, games room etc.
We had our dinner in the ryokan on both nights, and was particularly impressed with the food in Baden, a western restaurant. There are Chinese, Japanese and Western restaurants.
Finally, the staff are friendly and helpful although they are not very good at English.
It is one ryokan that I would recommend for people visiting Gero.
