Beyond hospitality
Ed Mon 02/11/2016 19:24My wife and I spent a recent weekend with friends at Sam's place. It went beyond hospitality...it felt like staying at the home of an old friend. The accommodations and food were superb but isn't that the way it is when old friends come to visit. Sam makes conversation into an art form. She is warm, witty and wise. We never found something we disagreed about but I think that wouldn't have mattered a bit. She is generous with his home and her heart. I hope many more people get to enjoy her home and her company.
Not the HUM DRUM
ASF48on 17/10/2016 15:40My husband and I find a different B and B every October and vacation with his roommate from college and his wife. We have been doing this for over 20 years and between the two couples have stayed in over 100 different B and B's... The Captain Visger House was quite an experience (a good one)... The house is decorated very eclectically ...You could spend your whole time there just looking at the different "stuff" in the house. Two days before we arrived, the innkeeper called to tell us that she had to very unexpectedly go out of town because of a very ill relative. Sam gave us two options. She could either make arrangements at another resort or we could cut our visit short with her by one day as she had coverage for all but one of the days that we were booked there. We opted to cut our stay short by one day. The gals that covered for Sam were wonderful and made us some wonderful breakfasts. They were helpful and did everything in their power to make our visit a pleasant one. You may note that your room will not be entered or freshened up unless you ask which we did ask for our bed to be made up. Our visit was the week after Columbus Day and we found that many of the local restaurants were already closed. We did take the cruise on the St.Lawrence and the visit to Boldt Castle which is one thing that you don't want to miss. There is also a lovely park within walking distance of the B and B where you can just go and sit and relax...If you are lucky, you will take time to see the sunset as well. Are you a fisherman? Take your pole as you can fish from the park as well. We had a lovely time in Alexandria Bay and were grateful to Sam for finding "inn coverage" when she couldn't be there herself.
As far as choosing a room, we were originally booked in an upstairs room but ended up taking the only room on the first floor which had a whirlpool bath . The staircase to get upstairs is a steep one so I welcomed the first floor accomomdation. This room is right off of the kitchen so we were awakened by the hustling and bustling in the kitchen in the morning and voices... It really didn't matter as we would be getting up for breakfast anyway but I feel that it should be mentioned Sam the innkeeper has some wonderful stories so maybe we can return sometime when she is there.
Quaint place
ladibug888on 16/10/2016 02:52This B&B was a very nice place. the innkeeper (Sam) had to leave...but Jess took over and she was a wonderful cook and so very pleasant to talk with. our room was on the 2nd floor ..there was a sitting room with a tv...but not very many channels to watch. also the wii fi was very weak.. the town and all its stores and restaurants were closed due to the time of the year...we got there after Columbus day.
Amazing Bed and Breakfast
Lynn kon 28/09/2016 01:58The Captain Visger House is amazing! I felt like I was visiting family 8nstead of staying at a strange place! Sam, the innkeeper, was wonderful! She was friendly, warm, welcoming, very accommodating and full of wonderful stories! Breakfast was absolutely amazing, the first morning we were there Sam made some kind of zucchini and potatoes with poached eggs and sausage, it was incredible! I hate zucchini and I cleaned my plate! Day 2 we had scrambled eggs, mashed sweet potatoes and this wonderful zucchini bread and day 3 was individual French Toast Casserole, coffee every morning was made in a French Press!
Our room was beautiful, we stayed in Ella, which is the only room on the first floor. Despite being right by the kitchen and stairs I never heard a sound! The bed was extremely comfortable.
I would highly recommend The Captain Visger House to anyone visiting Alexandria Bay! I strongly suggest booking early as it seems to full up quick. She only has 5 rooms and even though it's the end of the season she was booked!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
Small gem
Jeffbumon 12/09/2016 21:11We enjoyed our stay at the Captain Visger B & B. The owner is a super lady who bends over backward to make your stay a good one. Breakfasts here will be enough food for the whole day. Make sure to try the muffins. It is centrally located and a very nice place to stay. It's also very clean, which is a big thing for us.
