What People are saying

Wedding

Katherine Taylor was an amazing wedding coordinator. She always made time to speak to us, and make us feel like we were the only wedding she was coordinating. She always replied to our emails in a timely manner, and put us at ease when we were worried how the day would flow. She went the extra mile to make sure our day was special and we really appreciated her hard work for us. Thank you so much Katherine, I would fully recommend you to any couple getting married.

They Aim to Please

Our stay in Edinburgh and at this hotel couldn't have been nicer. We
were greeted by Valeria upon check in. She gave us our room (early).
We discovered it did not have air conditioning. She made arrangements
for us to have an air conditioned room. She realized we were tired from
a journey from New York, and told us to rest and use the room that was
ready until an air conditioned room would be available. We showered and
napped, and she had an upgraded room ready for us.
The entire staff was gracious, and Valeria was the first of them who we
met. We found all of the staff we were in contact with to be just as
considerate.
The room was lovely(except the trash was thrown out in the canisters in
the alley way a few floors under our window, which became noisy).
We had breakfast one morning. Food, ambiance, and service was fine.
Our time in Edinburgh was enhanced by staying at The Principal Hotel.
We recommend it highly.

Excellent staff

My wife and I spent three nights at the Principal. The airline had lost our luggage and we had a difficult time getting it back. Staff members Christiana, Marta, and Valeria were incredibly helpful as we tried to recover our bags. They were very kind. They made a terrible situation more bearable.

A great stay

We really loved this hotel and we had a brilliant time in Edinburgh. What a beautiful city! We had a fantastic spacious room but they're a little inconsistent with sizes as our friends booked the same sized room for the same price and theirs was disappointing. My friend complained of the shower curtain sticking to her bum whereas you could've got around 10 people in our enormous shower! We were lucky!
The cocktails are out of this world and Joseph is an exceptional barman!
I would definitely stay here again.

disappointing

We had high hopes for this hotel as it was recommended by family who stay there a lot. There is parking in the street outside of hotel but is £ 3.60 per hour so the hotel suggest that you park in a multi storey car park a couple of streets away. Check in was easy. We had paid for an upgrade to a superior room but our room did not feel superior it was just ok, clean and just adequate. We went to the hotel restaurant for dinner which was noisy and full. When our meal (steak) arrived it was disgraceful, we complained to the management and it was dealt with, we were offered another meal but we declined. The manager supplied us with a few snacks which was appreciated. After a decent nights sleep we decided we would try the breakfast, how could they possibly ruin a simple scottish breakfast? well they certainly did ruin it, the fried egg was like rubber, the sausages were dry, the potato cakes were rock hard.
We love Edinburgh and will definitely be back but not to this hotel.
