What People are saying

Brilliant Holiday

Anne3153on 29/08/2017 21:28

My friend and I stayed at The Island Hotel in early June. We absolutely loved the hotel.
We had a room in the main building overlooking the front of the hotel which was spotlessly clean. The food was excellent with a great choice and a selection of food from other countries. The outside dining areas were lovely with the added pleasure of beautiful sunsets. The staff were helpful and pleasant, nothing was too much trouble for them. We didn't find the drinks in the hotel that much more expensive than the local bars and the cocktail on the day was usually very nice. There isn't loads to do in the area but there are some very nice bars and restaurants. We did quite a few walks in the area. The beach and the sea were very nice with the added bonus of free sun beds and waiter service. The Thomson rep was good and we had a lovely day on the Thomsons trip to Spinalonga. One of the reasons we chose to stay in this area was we had read the Book 'The Island' and wanted to go to Spinalonga. We only stayed for a week but would happily have stayed longer.
We hope to return in the near future

Perfect chill out destination

Firstly, I had read a number of the reports before I went. But lets face it, some people search for fault as if there's a reward for it. Anyone can find fault if you look for it. In the past I have worked in hospitality and I travel a lot because of my work, and lets be realistic, no hotel is perfect; no matter the star rating. Something always needs attention, that's what happens to properties of any kind, they are constantly in need of maintenance and repair. However, this hotel is well maintained despite what some of the reports would have you believe. If your looking for absolute perfection, go and spend your holiday money staying at the Savoy in London or similar. So take the negatives you see on here with a pinch of salt, some are completely unreasonable. The positives of this complex most definitely out weigh the exaggerated negatives you might read on here. The staff are the real stars of this hotel complex. Always friendly, nothing is ever too much. The facilities are high tech and its ran efficiently with a smile. This is the reason why I give this hotel and complex 10 out of 10. You can stay anywhere in the world and you come up against the usual big corporate rules first, customer second mentality. Meaning, sales prevention officers manning the reception and restaurants. This is not the case with this hotel. They know you are on holiday and constantly remind you that 'this is your holiday, how can we make it more enjoyable?' That's the key to the Island Hotel holiday experience. You get what you pay for and in this case, you get value for money and then more some. By all means read the other reports, they have validity, but also consider my review, that this hotel offers the 'Perfect chill out experience'.

Beautiful hotel but shame about the area

Really beautiful hotel with friendly staff and tasty food. 4 pools so could always get a subbed at any time of day. Lots of noise from crickets in all the trees around the pools, so that was annoying. We had a free room upgrade so lucky because some rooms had tiny balconies right out on the walkways. The surrounding area was very poor with little to offer, so very disappointed and a good reason why I would not return to this lovely hotel.

Fantastic time at this hotel, excellent throughout

When booking I felt it was worth paying a bit extra for a sea view room. Im so glad I did this. We stayed in a lovely room in the main building which was great because we didnt have to walk far to the restaurant which was below our room. Very handy to see how many people were dining at a certain time to avoid the busy times. Yes the restaurant does get busy but it is run like clockwork. The food was plentiful and the staff work so hard making sure the guests are looked after. It was nice to be offered a seat outside or inside and the quality of the food was excellent. The only negative is that the men have to wear long trousers at evening meals, yet ladies can wear shorts which i dont think is fair and can be uncomfortable in the heat for the men. We ate out two nights just to sample the local restaurants. There are restaurants at the back of the hotel and also further along the front by the sea. All are very good. We visited the Anfield Bar, the atmosphere there was so good and fun as the resort is quiet. It wasnt until we were leaving that we went on a trip and noticed that past the Anfield Bar it looks quiet on the coast road but if you travel further down there are loads of bars, shops and restaurants and hotels in the resort of Gouves.

Another note is that the advantage also of a sea view room is that the breeze from the sea is so welcomed in the heat. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony overlooking the sea many times and because of this it made our holiday more special. The air con was fabulous also and the wi fi was better than at home, so fast.

Our room was cleaned throughout every day and the cleaning ladies were so friendly and they did a fantastic job. The bed sheets were cleaned every other day and I can say that the room, hotel and grounds were kept spotless. The drinks are slightly more expensive in the hotel but there is a supermarket in the hotel grounds and also a cheaper supermarket on the road at the back of the hotel.

There is always plenty of room by the choice of four pools so no need to put towels on beds, this isnt allowed anyway. There is a nice beach across the road from the hotel and the sunbeds are free for hotel guests. They provide blue towels which can be changed as much as you need.

There is no charge for air con, the safety deposit box is also free, I dont understand the bad reviews on here about this hotel but you cant please everyone. the RECEPTION was opened 24 hours and the staff were so helpful and polite. I asked for an extra pillow for our room and it was there in a matter of minutes. Cant fault this hotel and so looking forward to going there again.

We traveled with Thompson and booked a trip to Spinalonga well worth it and also booked a trip to Santorini from Heraklion by sea jet which took two hours. What an amazing experience that was. We will never forget this holiday and will be returning. Thank you so much to the staff at The Island Hotel
