What People are saying

Great stay at the Ivory

tegsnglennon 12/06/2017 20:40

Stayed at the Ivory after the Scotland v England game. Had this hotel booked as soon as the fixture was announced (for nearly a year) and chose it specifically for its location to Hampden.

As the game approached i read a few reviews and started to worry if we had chosen wisely.

I can honestly say....this hotel is a gem.

We were treated to a great day, fantastic food (evening meal and breakfast), comfortable rooms and friendly atmosphere (handy when you are an England fan outnumbered by 100/1).

We were that impressed we are trying to think of excuses to visit Glasgow again.

Banging......

We will be back..

Stayed at the Ivory Hotel last night (Friday) On arrival the staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much bother. We ended up having a spot of lunch, we picked Cajun chicken goujons and wow they were amazing. We had a few drinks and even a strawberry Daiquiri which is a must. We then checked into the room which was very modern and well kitted out with furniture and was massive. Very clean with an excellent sized bathroom with an excellent shower. We had breakfast the Saturday morning and again gorgeous. I will definitely be back and highly recommend the hotel. Thank you again to everyone for a great stay xx

Overnight stay

Stayed at the Ivory Hotel on 20th May as the location was convenient for an event we were attending in the area.
First impressions were that the hotel looked a little shabby from the outside.
Our room on the first floor was spacious, clean overlooked the park.

Positives -
Two large windows
Two comfortable double beds
Modern bathroom (shower only)
Lots of drawer/wardrobe space
Large TV

Negatives -
Curtains were faded and very difficult to draw closed
The room was in need of a coat of paint, the ceiling was badly stained.
One long wall mounted mirror in a corner, nowhere near a socket for hairdryers etc.
Wi-fi "hadn't been working for a few days"

We ate in the restaurant with friends and the service was good, all staff we encountered were very pleasant. The menu has a great choice of dishes and the pre-theatre menu is very reasonably priced. We all really enjoyed our meals although the portions were a little on the small side.

Not sure if we would stay here again, there is definetely room for improvement.

So much potential

The potential for this place is great.
Unfortunately the service lets it down.
A number one for a successful hotel restaurants is that proprietors have to have their eye on the ball.
Unfortunately this wee place is greatly let down by it's obvious lack of management..

Overpriced, overstated and over run

If you like the type of hotel where fellow guests are eating their breakfast with a pint then this is the hotel for you. To be honest, I didn’t mind that so much as paying over £160 a night for two rooms that definitely hadn’t been ‘recently decorated’. There wasn’t even any toilet roll in the bathroom!
Then again, maybe what I minded more, was being told on arrival that the room rate had gone up to £180 per night since I booked and that my email confirmation saying ‘amount due £160’ wasn’t worth the paper it was written on and that I owed more. Now, I’m no expert in the law of contract but summoning up everything I could remember from my A level Law (Grade E), I drew a deep breath and prepared myself for my best argument including the words ‘offer’ and ‘acceptance’, only to be interrupted by my sister-in-law. She was cross. Very cross. She had paid even more for their rooms and had pre-paid for breakfast, which she was now being told wasn’t possible. Even though she had proof of this. Apparently it wasn’t proof, just like my email. We all agreed to sleep on this and review it in the morning.
We had dinner in the restaurant. I had been surprised when, on my way to the hotel, my Dad texted me to say that he had booked a table for us all in the hotel restaurant. But I’ve already booked I texted back, for 12 people for 7pm. But apparently I hadn’t, even though I had, yes you’ve guessed it, email confirmation.
Dinner was nice and we enjoyed the awesome live music in the bar. We also enjoyed the free Wi-Fi access - which was lucky as it didn't work in the bedrooms! We then all went to bed with varying degrees of success. The cot supplied in my son and daughter-in-law’s room had a very low side. Perfectly alright for a 9 month old but my granddaughter is two and could climb out very easily. We asked for a replacement and were eventually brought their one spare travel cot. Which was broken. And with the window not closing properly and having a towel plugging the gap having a toddle able to run around everywhere wasn’t good. Room 2 was the better of the two rooms my sister-in-law had booked she was told, so the kids were put in the other room. It might have been the better room but it wasn’t the quieter of the two, so not much more sleep there either! Our room was hard to get in to as the key was very loose and temperamental and the giant bee in the bathroom didn’t help, or the ill-fitting curtains and bright light outside. We tried to tell staff about several of our concerns but it was very difficult getting their attention as they were so busy with the pre-booked football parties.
Anyway, the famous breakfast. On the website it said that breakfast was served until 10.30. It wasn’t. We were ushered out well before 10 and were constantly told we needed to be quick and reminded that we needed to be finished. It wasn’t cheap but the quality was good and it was worth the money, however for what I paid, I would expect to be eating it in a dining room, or at least a room with a certain ambience, not a bar (why the conservatory was sectioned off and we were made to have breakfast in the bar we weren’t quite sure).
Now, we knew this hotel was close to Hampden Park and that the Cup semi-finals were on that weekend. As football fans we are used to being in pubs with fans drinking – although to be fair not at 10 o’clock in the morning. However, we would have expected to be told on booking that breakfast was restricted and that on both mornings there were hundreds of fans booked in.
Don’t get me wrong. This isn’t a bad hotel, the staff were nice and I’ve stayed in worse but I only paid £50 a night for those, so I knew what to expect and that’s the point really. With the pictures and description on the website and the prices charged you expect a lot more than you get.
My brother and family didn’t have to pay for the breakfast they had already paid for and we didn’t pay any more for our rooms, although we did have to pay for the damage done to our hire car in the hotel car park, but that’s another story on another review site!
