Strange feeling - 4-stars hotel but room of the size I never had before. HUGE !
A littele old fashioned - doors still need keys - I mean analog keys. Walls covered with objects of art. - mainly paintings

Luxurious comfort with impeccable, unpretentious service

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights in early August. We were travelling with another friend and booked a suite at the Schlossberg. Our room was not ready when we arrived, so we left our luggage and car at the hotel before heading out to do some sight-seeing. When we arrived back at the hotel in the late afternoon, our car had been valet parked and our luggage were waiting for us in our suite.

We were initially concerned about whether or not there would be sufficient privacy, but our worries were put to rest the moment we walked in to the enormous suite: both the living room and bedroom had heavy wooden doors, and the spacious bathroom (with shower stall AND tub with shower) was conveniently positioned along the common corridor. There was ample space for us to lounge around and talk in the evenings and we even had an amazing Thai meal delivered to us at our suite for one of our dinners. When I called the front desk to request for plates and cutlery, as well as for an additional wine glass (as we had a fourth friend with us for dinner), they responded impressively promptly.

The weather was sweltering during our stay in Graz (34 deg C/ 95 deg F) and as in many parts of Austria, many buildings including restaurants and shops are not air-conditioned. The most powerful air-conditioning we found was right here in our hotel room - a wonderful reprieve we made use of to cool down during the hottest hours of the day!

After we checked-out, we had about 45 mins to kill before we were due to leave for the airport and we wanted to stay in the lobby. The hotel staff graciously allowed us to leave our rental car parked in front of the hotel until it was time was for us to leave. We had an extremely comfortable stay. The beds - including the roll-away bed for our extra guest - were wonderful. All our needs were met and all our requests and queries promptly attended to by the friendly hotel staff.

The Schlossberg Hotel was our favourite accommodation during our two weeks in Germany & Austria, and we found ourselves liking Graz's laid-back charm even more than we did exquisite Vienna. Perhaps the wonderful hotel had something to do with it!

A stylish, comfortable but also friendly place to stay

An overnight stay for an old solo motorbiker - still got a warm and friendly welcome. Great location for 'old Graz', which is a great town by the way, and a good view across the river. Very nice room, good bed, excellent bathroom, sumptuous breakfast set in a very pleasant conservatory type room. The staff were excellent. On a sunny day, lots of places in the hotel garden to snooze and while away time. Highly recommended.

A much better than average hotel

We had the 25 square metre room #55 on the 3rd floor looking at a leafy green hillside at the rear of the hotel. We had free WiFi and free valet parking. It's a bit inconvenient and annoying to find that you cant access your vehicle to collect forgotten items without going through whole valet retrieval process. However downtown parking in European cities should not be criticised !! The staff were all very obliging. There is no restaurant as such in the hotel but plenty of options within 400 - 500 metres. We did not try the Hotel's breakfast. No way we were going to pay 20 Euros EACH for breakfast. We didn't realise our room wouldn't have a fridge and that proved to be a big inconvenience. Still, overall, this is a pretty good city hotel.

Bad room spoils nice hotel

The hotel is in a great position, staff were great and nice facilities. However, we were unlucky to be given room 18. The room is at the bottom of a deep courtyard with windows only facing inwards. The room inside was small but OK. The first night was OK as the room was cool on a hot day. The 2nd night an air conditioning fan was noisy and blew hot air into courtyard and room. A bad nights sleep followed. The staff at check out were helpful and said we should have asked to move but this was not practical at the time. I think these rooms should not be offered as guest rooms.
