Lovely room, Nice canopied four poster bed, super mattress, Clean, nice view over enclosed gardens, wood paneled lounge with open fire, good service overlooking open countryside but minutes away from Bristol city etc.

Well above our expectations!

Stayed 2 nights while on way to Whales and a visit to Bath. Reception was excellent right from the beginning. Room was not what we expected since we didn't upgrade. We stayed in Gloucester and couldn't have wanted more! The view from our very large windows was beautiful. It over looks the garden and church. Really felt like we were in a tower. The bathroom was very modern and had everything we needed. Coffee/tea in room. Staff always around when we needed anything. Had drinks in the library and really enjoyed relaxing there. Very well decorated. Breakfast was perfect. Lots of cold options to include yogurt, cheese, and fruit. Full English was yummy as well. Plan on returning for sure.

Wedded bliss

We arrived for a overnight stay and a family members wedding. Reception was professional and very helpful during the entire stay.we stayed in tudor a lovely large room in a turret.Bathroom was equally as big with separate shower and bath. There is a fridge but no mini bar tea making facilities are available. The bar drinks throughout the day seemed reasonable and they serve my favorite gin 6 of clock I had hoped being in Thornbury. Food was good not great but I am sure most visit for the rooms and it's history. It was a lovely wedding for a lovely couple and I enjoyed our stay.

Tudor experience

We stayed here one night and it's a beautiful place. We were checked in and out by Megan, who was so friendly and welcoming. Our room was stunning with a huge four poster bed with thick velvet curtains and once inside, looking up, there's a wooden frame in squares with stars in between and I was delighted to find a light that was enough to see the stars but not enough to keep me awake. I had the best night's sleep I've ever had in a hotel bed.
There were minor points that could be improved on like a wonky toilet seat and a hammock-like cobweb on the window, but all in all we loved the room.
We had a walk in the gardens which were very nice but which will be gorgeous in a couple of months, and we sat in one for over an hour enjoying the sunshine, the garden and the silence except for different bird calls. Very peaceful.
Dinner was fine. My duck starter was tough to cut but not to chew and my lamb main was nice. Presentation was lovely but I felt presentation won over substance and I definitely needed a dessert to be satisfied, but the chocolate dessert changed that! Being 70% cocoa (I love dark chocolate) it was both delicious and very satisfying. My main disappointment at dinner was going into what must be a very atmospheric dining room, like the rest of the castle, and sitting near an American family with two children who NEVER stopped talking and we could hear every word very very clearly. It totally ruined the atmosphere of what should have been a lovely romantic meal for two in a wonderful castle. I think I may have appreciated dinner more without their presence but of course that wasn't the fault of the hotel.
Breakfast again was fine with the usual buffet. Nothing was outstanding and we had to ask for toast as it wasn't offered and my second cup of tea was scummy so I left it.
Would I go again? I don't know, maybe just for the fantastic room but not for the food experience. Service in the hotel is very very good without being overbearing.

Comfy Castle!

Short stay, but well worth the visit, lovely grounds, friendly staff, nice room stayed in Buckingham, clean tidy & warm, large room with huge bathroom, all mod cons but with the mystic of history that takes you back in time.
Staff excellent, superb views & grounds, well worth a visit, we will return.
