What People are saying

Great place to relax

genikebeston 15/06/2017 00:06

This is the second time here for me. It's beautiful in every season.
The onsen is great and has the best view of the mountains in the lake.
The rooms are Japanese futon type and very cosy.
The dinner and breakfast is buffet type and have incredible selection.
The only negatives are the the place is a bit old and the rooms and corridors smell smoke as smoking is allowed in the rooms.

Potential for a great hotel but a bit hit and miss

Grant Won 13/06/2017 00:41

The main reason we booked this hotel was for the facilities (arcade, water park/pool and onsen) that catered for kids.

The kids were thoroughly entertained and for this reason I've given this hotel a 3.5/5 rating. If travelling without kids, I would give this hotel a miss.

Amazing views of the lake from lobby, restaurant and rooms.

Onsen: 8/10
Good onsen for men and women that overlook the lake. Good showering and change room facilities. Feels a little more like a communal spa bath than somewhere to sit and relax.

Water park/pool: 9.5/10
I've never seen an indoor water park of this size before. Comes with a wave pool, rip pool, 6 water slides, baby pool and kiddy sized onsen/spas. Change rooms are good but only have cold water in showers - if after a hot shower best to skip over to the onsen change room.

Arcade: 7/10
Games a little outdated but kept the kids entertained.

Service: 7/10
For Japan standards (where everyone is so polite) I found the service a little lacking with a care-factor lower than what I would expect. While doing our best to speak in Japanese, communication was difficult as the staff do not speak English that well.

Food: 8/10
Good variety of buffet style of food. Dinners and breakfasts included in room price. We didn't have an issue with wiring for food (stayed off peak) but can see why people would get frustrated in peak periods to line up for food as the restaurant capacity is built to cater for 100s.

Rooms: 2/10
Like most other reviews, the rooms are really lacking in this hotel. There is a general smokey smell throughout the corridors and the furniture is really outdated.

While our Japanese style room was smoke-smell free, we could not figure out why there was a damp smell to the room. Figured out that it was because the plumbing and drainage in the bathroom was so poor that it flooded when taking a shower. Brushing teeth and going to the toilet while standing in 2cm of water is what I expect in a backpacker hostel not a hotel. Looking at our bathroom roof there was clear water damage, so I'm guessing the room above us also had drainage issues. It got so bad that we ended up showering down in the onsen change rooms instead.

Parking: 8/10
Free outdoor parking.

All-in-all I felt the value for money was high given the rooms were sub-par, and the hotel had a general high school change room/cafeteria feel (to cater to the masses). The saving grace for this hotel for us was the water park.

Good food , good onsen , poor rooms

jolinplon 10/06/2017 10:23

We were put in the crystal wing of this hotel . I must say the sun doesn't shine here . It was freezing cold along the corridors and rooms despite asking for a heater that lit up like a beacon that we could not use at night . The furniture was shabby and the cupboard was about to fall off its hinges . The rooms looked like out of the 1970's and could do with a major haul over .
Dinner and breakfast were both very good with good variety and delicious food . Did not like the queues though for the food . This hotel appeared to cater to bus loads of tourists .
The onsen was one of the best with an infinity pool that overlooked Lake Toya . There were about 6-7 pools altogether - jacuzzi , micro bubbles etc . Excellent range of toiletries as well in the baths .
Wifi was good .
Fireworks could be viewed from the hotel from 845-905 pm .
All in all potential for a five star stay if not for the poor rooms . Perhaps the rooms in the main wing were better ?

Good in majority but minor default

Yanyanboon 27/05/2017 03:22

Good large open lounge area with large open window to see the whole Toya lake. The morning breakfast and dinner buffet choice are excellent. Onsen no doubt is great. The default is the room has some strange smell. Due to its popularity, loads of tourists stay in here. If you don't mind the tourists, this is a good choice to stay

One of the best stay in an onsen hotel

Jack Yon 18/05/2017 05:50

The lobby of the hotel has a magnificent view of the lake and the mountains. The onsen was modern and has a great view of the lake and mountains. It was probably one of the best onsen I have ever been. The room is a little bit dated but this is normal in Japan for Japanese styled room. It was cosy for three persons. This is a large hotel with many guests. For dinner and breakfast, you have to line up for services. The buffet spread were great. You can enjoy the view of the lake and mountains while eating.
